Bad seeds in the church
We recently had some church going friends over for a casual dinner the other night. As the night progressed, this couple couldnt help but "spill the beans" about some stuff that is going on amongst members of their church. Apparently spouses are cheating on each other, pastors are getting cars for "gifts", wealthy business men are not paying their bills and the list goes on. Seems to me this so called "church" must be pastored by Satan as no "church going folk" would do act like this...would they? I was always under the impression that going to church made you a better person, but now I know I am better to stay away from the Franklyn and Hwy 33 area on Sundays.

This sort of behaviour is hardly new.... church folk definitely are no different than anyone else.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

They're just people, no better or worse than anyone else. Only difference is that they believe no matter how bad they screw up, they'll be forgiven by a mythical entity.
You cannot reason someone out of a position that they did not use reason to arrive at.

Sort of thought that, but for some reason they think they are better than everyone else.....is this what "God" would allow?

Ya... well church folk tend to think a lot of things that aren't true though..
so what's one more thing in the big scheme of things

Couldnt agree with you more, for some reason they think they are better than the general public? Cant wait to see the boys in blue roll up on a Sunday for a few arrests of the so called "good members".

Just noticed on the forums that this Pastor is the "Pastor dave" that is the "leader of this so called church". WOW, time to "CLEANSE" the flock.

Well thinking something doesn't make it true.
but I'm sorta of the let em have their thing mindset.
It makes them happy (or at least mildly content) and they usually leave me the heck alone if I don't poke them about it too badly.
Unless of course they start poking me first.... then watch out

That should pretty much explain a lot of it.

Wow! What an amazing "never before thought of" observation of human behaviour and such an entirely unique new way of starting yet another bashing the church-going folk thread. And Sunday's not even until tomorrow.

That particular church is also a 3rd wave evangelical dominionist church that denies evoulution, wants Canada to be a theocracy, and would like to set back women's rights back 500 years. The leadership is corrupt as they come. They fleece their flock by instilling fear and paranoia, social isolation, and obediance. They are also affiliated with another church in town whos leader has been charged with fraud. They are a really nice bunch.
Nothing on the Internet is so serious it can't be laughed at, and nothing is as laughable as people who think otherwise.

So it all is coming together....fraud, infidelity, stealing etc. etc. Yep sounds like them.

Now if you remove the whole GOD aspect that might be something I'd be interested in attending

Steve, your indignation is misplaced.
