Ask the Mayans and they will tell you they were working away on this big bad *bleep* calendar when suddenly these Spanish Gangtsas invaded the place and the Mayans very quickly got very busy doing others things.

I believe the Mayans had already abandoned most of their cities because the ruling class had become far too corrupt before the Spanish gangstas arrived. They got tired of being slaves to those decadent buggers. Kinda reminds me of the occupy movement - up the establishment and all that.
