I find the whole thing hilarious. The T-shirt was meant to be humorous - Life is Wasted in huge letters, followed by small letters "without Jesus". It's a jokey shirt, a bit of a play on what teenagers are usually wearing these day, supposed to laugh at it as opposed to get panties in a bunch over militant religions and so on.
Sarcasm is like a good game of chess. Most people don't know how to play chess.

Might have been if it hadn't also said "Philippians 3.8" after "without Jesus". The kid was preaching his religion and slamming any other than his.

Yup! When a fundy is in your face with their spiel, try and get a word in edgewise. They attack with verbal diarrhea because they can't hear anything but their own propaganda. To do so would cause them psychotic overload. Anybody who has to shout their beliefs in your face has their faith built on quicksand. Very frightening to watch because if you do get a chance to challenge them they freak out. I have seen blood in the eyes of some and I knew they would have tried to kill me if they thought they could get away with it. There is only one degree of separation between them and suicide bombers.

From what I read today, the T-shirt was the final straw. He had been preaching in school and there had been complaints from students about it.

Then it is good if he does not go to public school any longer. Home school is a good option for him.

I never really understood what the big fuss was over anyhow.
what was wrong with him wearing the t-shirt exactly?

I thought "no religion in schools" policy meant that schools remained secular as to not promote one belief set over another. Which I agree with. It's the school (as the educator) that should not be promoting religion doctrine or belief systems. Same with Gov't.

This policy however shouldn't remove the student's fundamental right to have a religion and be proud of it, if that's what they want to do. (not getting abusive about it mind you/that crosses the line)
So wearing a religious symbol on a chain or t-shirt. wearing an article of clothing that proclaims your faith somehow, how is this a suspending worthy thing exactly?

Like all things, everything is always blown way out of proportion.

In an effort to make everyone even and give everyone the "freedom from religion" we're actually ending up removing peoples rights of "freedom of religion".

These people who become offended because a neighbour is practising a religion, you really have to ask yourself exactly what about them or their icon they're displaying offends you exactly?
Is it a "my god's better than your god thing?

They're not making you do it too, they're not hurting you at all really with their belief.
The fact that they believe in something and you believe something else or nothing else shouldn't really matter to anyone.
What the heck!!!!!!

It seems like offended is the new emotion du jour.
Everyone needs to lighten up
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Yeah, I feel so offended. Couldn't eat anything yesterday, it was that bad.

And then I saw a fish symbol on some car - they should pull his license. Preaching on public roads must stop!

WhatThe wrote:I wonder how this shirt would go over? - your mind is wasted believing in Jesus -

that shouldn't matter either.
I remember my daughter had a t-shirt that said "God, the imaginary friend for grown-ups"
but really it shouldn't matter if you're t-shirt supports "Allah be praised", "All hail Yaweh" Jesus is Lord or even anti-religious shirts
The point is simply this:
