I would love to see how that plays out.

Re: Student brings Jesus back to classroom
I personally wouldn't care if the kid was wearing this shirt in school; however, I think the teachers were right in what they did. He has the right to wear this kind of shirt outside of school but not to school. Public education is a government run organization and the government is secular. It has maintain 100% secular otherwise it is just a slippery slope. Plus, I bet it would have been a different out come if the shirt just had the bible verse, there has to be limits on with people say in schools/city halls etc. I can't walk into city hall and say things that are racist or discriminatory. The small price we pay for freedom is not being a penis face about your beliefs.

SO WHAT. When I think about what kids wear to school these days, I can't believe people would fuss over this. Preachy or not. Super short mini skirts, boys wearing pants below their butts. Signs like "juicy" on their butts and so on.
Erotic clothing is tolerated in schools but a slogan about Jesus makes headlines? Its ok to preach "do me" but not a religious faith. Keep in mind, its not to direct as in stopping people at random and preaching to them, its more passive preaching. SO WHAT.

I think it could be the ones against the shirts who are insecure. I'm secure enough in my beliefs that a shirt saying "Zeus" instead of "Jesus" wouldn't sway my beliefs... wow, what strong mind power it takes. If in BC I see someone wearing a shirt that says "Oilers are #1" I probably wouldn't get all bent out of shape either... maybe it's just me.

Re: Student brings Jesus back to classroom
The problem with the T-shirt is that the message is a put-down (an intolerance) against other religions.
If it had read "I love Jesus" that would have been fine, as would "I love Allah".
But it wasn't.
What the T-shirt inferred was "If you don't believe in Jesus, your life is wasted" ... and THAT is the put-down and the reason it was banned.
There is a difference.

Good god*. You got intolerance, put downs, insensitivity from that? God help the kid who shows up with "I'm with stupid" shirt.

* - By saying "good god" in no way was I saying that this particular god is good and others are bad. Please don't ban me from Castanet for this.

And now they're saying it's all good and he is free to wear the shirt.
Does it mean it's just you now then?

- Hatred is evil
- Religion promotes hatred against others
- Ergo, Religion is evil
And that’s pretty well all I need to know.
This kid's shirt was an expression of evil, no matter how you spin it. Saying that the lives of others are wasted simply because they don't believe in some psychopathic homicidal invisible sky god, and then trying to ram that idea down their throats, is an expression of hatred.
Keep your own religion between your two ears, and you'll never have a problem with me. Try and impose that religion upon me or my loved ones, and I'll go all ursine on your *bleep*.
In other notes, I do strongly believe that the separation of church and state should extend to all government and government-funded institutions. This includes public schools, and any school that gets even a single cent of government funding. This means, in no uncertain terms: no prayer, no religious instruction (aside from formal educational/instructional classes that include all the world's mythologies), no religious symbols, no religious material/scripture outside of the "mythology" section of the library, and no religious icons anywhere, including on a person's body.
Of course, that last bit ought to *bleep* off the fundamentalist Christians, the Muslims and the Sikhs in equal measure… seeing as those three tend to love plastering their children with religious adornment.
I am insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.

That would have to include pictures of the Queen as she is the head of the Church of England.
Trying to get spiritual nourishment from a two thousand year old book is like trying to suck milk from the breast of a woman who has been dead that long.

In full regalia (which includes religious symbols), I would have to agree. In normal clothing, I could argue the case that she is merely our Queen, and that the photo has no religious significance as such.

By keeping your religious thoughts to yourself, is that like posting hateful rants against religion on castanet? Your belief is to "Keep your own religion between your two ears, and you'll never have a problem with me" Thank you for PUSHING your beliefs on us.
