Satanism growing in America?

Post by averagejoe »

It seems like Satanism is getting a foothold in America, giving the young an alternative to Christianity.....

Harvard Group Is Hosting a Reenactment of a Satanic Black Mass.

An independent group of students from the Harvard Extension School are hosting a controversial reenactment of a Satanic “Black Mass” ceremony at a space on the school’s campus this month, which has raised eyebrows in the community and led to the condemnation of the ritual by the Archdiocese of Boston.

Members of the Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club, who posted fliers and notices on campus and online about the Satanic worshipping happening on May 12, said the event is educational and meant to add historical context to a lecture on the subject that will precede it. “Our purpose is not to denigrate any religion or faith, which would be repugnant to our educational purposes, but instead to learn and experience the history of different cultural practices,” the group said in a statement. “This performance is part of a larger effort to explore religious facets that continue to influence contemporary culture.”

The group has teamed up with members from the New York-based Satanic Temple, the same organization that has been fighting tooth and nail to get a bronze Satanic statue installed outside of Oklahoma’s State House this year, to carry out the demonstration and reenactment of the Black Mass. The Satanic Temple will provide commentary and historical background as the ritual is happening, according to event details posted on the Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club’s website.

A Black Mass usually mocks Catholic teachings and the word of God. While the mass will have elements of what typically occurs, the group said it “unequivocally does not include a consecrated host.” Instead, they will use a piece of bread.

Devil-worship group unveils satanic statue design for Oklahoma State Capitol

A satanic group unveiled designs Monday for a 7-foot-tall statue of satan it wants to put at the Oklahoma state Capitol, where a Ten Commandments monument was placed in 2012.

The New York-based Satanic Temple formally submitted its application to a panel that oversees the Capitol grounds, including an artist’s rendering that depicts Satan as Baphomet, a goat-headed figure with horns, wings and a long beard that’s often used as a symbol of the occult. In the rendering, Satan is sitting in a pentagram-adorned throne with smiling children next to him.

You can even have your children sit on satan's lap...

The monument has been designed to reflect the views of Satanists in Oklahoma City and beyond,” temple spokesman Lucien Greaves said in a statement. “The statue will also have a functional purpose as a chair where people of all ages may sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation.

Headline with article...

Satanists slated to perform ‘black mass’ at Harvard University claim they don't believe in the supernatural.

How can they be satanists if they don't believe in the supernatural? What about their god satan?

By the way, I agree with your statement of separating government and God. I like the part where we get rid of government. :)

It's more like atheists using satire to show how ridiculous the religious laws are down there. Christians have been pushing for it for years but now have to contend with the fact if their religion is being promoted in public places, than all religions can.

Interesting turn of events, nice posts averagejo.

I think we are going to begin seeing more of this type of thing out in public and it will be deemed appropriate as never before.

Not exactly the same however quite a while ago they did place the statue of Anubis along with the dark horse with the glowing red eyes at the Denver airport. Symbols are language, language shapes culture.

Television, big screen hollywood, fashion adverts, music video/performances....all of these are now imbued with dark images and symbols, like a stone dropped in the water its ripple effect reaches vast populations, acting upon human consciousness on a subconscious level influencing our perceptions of reality.

Its clear where things are headed.

Also, isnt harvard home of scull and bones?

Most people I've met who are into Satanism are awkward teenagers who just want to rebel against something - sometimes they rebel against authority, sometimes they rebel against corporations, and sometimes they rebel against Christianity. In that case, their rebellion turns into Satanism but they wouldn't give two craps about Satanism, they just want to be against something established and put their teenage angst to use.

But it all passes once they grow up. Mind you, there are some 30-40-50 year olds still walking around who never mentally grew up, and they still rebel against things - like authority, corporations, and Christianity.

You've just described the three word summary of those Zeitgeist movies.
