#1 If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. - Matthew 17:20

#2 For they were about five thousand men. ...Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets. - Luke:9

#3 - And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. - Matthew 21:22

If you join a church you can have pretty much anything you want. According to the bible.

RE: #3

Yeah, I've seen a lot of amputees, burn victims and quadriplegics cured by prayer. And let's not forget the birth defects!!

Thinktank, is this you? We missed you! Not very healthy skepticism when you completely misinterpret the message to suit your one lusts to be selfish. Your interpretation is quite ignorant. If you'd read a little more and take things in context you would learn that prayer is never about asking to fulfill your own ambitions.

God is great at curing hiccups. Amputees, other than the salamander, star fish, reptile types.....NOT So Much!!

Quote from article -
"It's hard to find a body part they can't regenerate," Voss says. "Salamanders in general, and axolotls especially so. The limbs, the tail, the spinal cord -- even half of their brain has been removed and shown to regenerate."

I guess a child amputee in God's mind isn't as important as a salamder's foot. Hmmm

Some people will join a church of their choice, some people will not join any type of church. Both have that right in this country, neither group is better or worst then the other or right or wrong for that fact.

That should actually read: Prayer SHOULD never be about asking to fulfill your own ambitions.

Unfortunately we both know that is not the way it really is - there are just too many self absorbed, self serving, egotistical people out there who are only out for what life can do for them...including those who 'pray'.

There's nothing wrong in asking for help.

What's with all this church stuff on Castanet of late? As an advanced society, I thought we have moved beyond the need for organized religion. Now it appears as if we are taking a step back.

True enough, but we also know that an all-knowing all-loving god would give the same answer a loving parent would give to their child that greedily asks for things - No!

Not getting your prayer looks suspiciously similar to no one is listening to your inner thoughts in your head.

Christianity professes its uniqueness', 'originality' and 'truthyness.'

But it's a copy of earlier beliefs and gods.

Please go to church. Please do but also while there realize you're not worshipping a New Revelation. You are worshipping a syncretized faith. A blend of many faiths originations in the crossroads of history. The Silk Road Creation.

Angels...just like ones you see in Christian churches.

That's a red herring. No one claims that halos are a Christian invention. Christianity claims to be unique for the reasons that it is unique, not for the cultural and peripheral things it cleaned from other cultures and religions.

For a "healthy skeptic" you sure aren't very skeptical of the crazy Zeitgisty stuff you read.
