The Talmud

Post by Thinktank »

Let's discuss the Talmud.

No links needed. Just tell us what you know about the Talmud - not what google knows.
Besides, you can't believe the crap you read on the internet anyway.

Here's a thread 63 pages long started by this guy ---> Image and it's all about Muslims.

But yet.... I'm afraid to start a thread about the Talmud. I don't know if the people here
will like it or not.

I sure hope I can discuss this thing - the Talmud without offending someone.

try this: write these two words and see which one MUST be capitalized.
Weird - the bible does not need to be capitalized but the Talmud ( <--- correct) does.

talmud < --- not correct

bible <--- fine

But now let's get back on topic.

Wow. No one knows anything about the Talmud. But we're learning a lot about Muslims over
on that other thread - 65 pages long.

Winnipeg Muslim man beats "property" (wife) in front of cops

But not one word about Talmuds? Good thing I started this thread. we are going to learn
something ........... if it's allowed.

So here's a question for everyone:

Who wrote the Talmud?

Can I read a Talmud at the library?

Do all Jews study the Talmud?

Come on - this is important.

The Talmud is a properly named book. The 'bible' can refer to the christian Bible, or in the informal use, as in
any authoritative book. For example, the Harry Potter bible. There is the answer to your existential question. No, the spell check gods are not persecuting christianity.

Oi oi oi - I was wrong already on that one.

But I'm thinking the Talmud isn't exactly something to be proud of.

That's what I'm thinking. Because in all my life I haven't seen anything in the Penticton
Herald about the Talmud. Nothing. And you always see bible scriptures everywhere - Christians like to spread the gospel.

But do you think if I started to compare bible and talmud - do you think that would be alright?
I'm worried to say anything on this thread because I might be accused of the worst thing on earth - antisemitism.

Meh. I'e always lumped all of the Abrahamic monotheisms into one mythology. If you want to criticize the talmud, go hard, just remember to apply those hard won realizations to you own belief system.

Didn't Jimmy Carter criticize something - and got in trouble?

Just be out with it. Criticize all you want. If people call you an anti-semite, it falls on you to show them how you are not, i guess. Seems that you are building the pyre and cross before it's even been burned.

No, I saw who the author was, and didn't bother clicking. Then I saw someone commented so figured I'd give it a quick read.

So your question is why are there 65 pages about Islam (note: it's about Islam, not Muslims), but nothing about the Talmud. Besides the fact that Jews don't exist if you round to nearest whole number (0.2% of the world's population is Jewish) and Muslims make up 23% and growing, there is the other issue of what their respective holy books teach. With the Talmud, it teaches how to live a Jewish life. If I'm not a Jew it doesn't concern me. By contrast, 60% of the Islamic holy books concern me because they teach Muslims how to treat us (unbelievers/Kafirs/infidels). It's like how Jews in the 1930s and 40s would be concerned about Mein Kampf rather than the Communist Manifesto.
