Atheists in the Okanagan.

Is there a god? What is the meaning of life?

You should probably go read about the Theory of Evolution and develop an understanding before posting about it. The beginning of life isn't a part of the theory. Evolution, in short, explains the diversity of species. The answer to how everything came to be is "We don't know" and that's the end of that discussion. It's not skipping a step, it's just not part of the theory.

Because it's the only one I've heard that seems remotely possible. Which explanation do you think makes the most sense or is the most plausible? Why?

I would not commit to saying what is most plausible because I don't think we actually have all the possible options. Saying one is more plausible requires knowing all the possible options. I think it's probably something we have not yet even thought of, that's why I leave the question open and have no problem saying "I don't know". I will be honest with you, the god explanation (the gods that have been presented to me) does give me the least satisfaction(in terms of an explanation), as it raises so many other unsolved questions, for me.

Why limit yourself to a god theory? Its really a lazy mind set if you stop and think about it. Hey some silly book thats 2000 years old when people thought the earth was flat and the earth revolved around the sun said that a god create all this so it must be true. Yes that makes complete sense.

In your opinion god is the most plausible explanation.
Atheists dismiss it because we don't think it's plausible in the least....it's not about trying to shift the conversation at all - it's simply that we don't believe god to be a plausible answer for anything. He's more of an excuse.

Besides, no answer as to how your god came to exist ??

Believing in evolution requires no 'faith'.
It is a scientific, evidence based and backed explanation of how species have evolved on our planet over millions of years.

It does not profess to explain how or why life first began or how earth came to be....it has nothing to do with that - it is simply the evolution of life.

I am more than willing to admit that I have every faith in evidence based scientific research, yes.

That question in itself is flawed. It's like asking what the color blue smells like.

Actually it's exactly like asking a non believer how the earth began out of nothing if not for a creator.

Or you could actually read what I've been talking about on this thread, which embarrasing enough (not for me) was exactly what you just stated I should read. Go back a couple of pages and see for yourself.

God did not come into existence, he has always existed. Beginnings and endings only apply to finite things. Since god is infinite, he has no beginning and no ending. We as time-bound objects can't comprehend timelessness / infinity.

This thread is hilarious with all the believer's trying to push their silly religion on non believer's.

When asked what proof there really is they can't answer it or they deflect and avoid the question by either asking a question or simply attack the person asking the question with none sense.

I don't like labelling people but generally speaking, clear terms and definitions about what we believe and which school of thought we most likely buy into can sometimes be helpful in this sort of discussion.

No more reasonable or realistic to assume such a statement than to suggest that the universe has always existed and is infinite.

Stating it as fact , as you have, is rather arrogant.
You have no more insight into the beginning of time than anyone else here....and your opinion is simply that - your opinion - not fact.

If God was here forever he could have started time and the big bang. If the universe was here forever, what started it and time?It makes more sense that an outside force started it.
