Is Atheism a religion?

Is there a god? What is the meaning of life?

I mostly base my religious belief system on the study of George Carlin routines.

I think there is room to start a new religion. Let's call it the Peoples House of Religious Freedom.

There could be:
--7 services per week, held after 5 PM.
-----Along with the wine and biscuits being served, for those that are devoted..
----- to the attending regular services, they could also have beer and chicken wings.
--For those that are long time, devoted members, they can choose rum or vodka mixed with their a fruit juice.
These services could be held in a big building called a church/place of worship.
This church should be tax free and supported by donations.

All are allowed to attend any service of their choice, and will be welcome.

Then thought I was an atheist as I found the religion to which my family had followed was wrought with contradiction. Then I heard the term Agnostic and thought that was more like the way I felt. Now it seems all the previous posts have me confused again.

To me it's simple. I believe that there could be a divinity of some sort whether it be a creator of everything or maybe just an advanced species of "seed" planters. I do not believe that there is a god that meddles in the day to day life of our planet.

BTW it irks me when the guy who just won the football game or some other sporting event thanks god for the win. Is god a bookie? Did it not want the other team to win? Would the player not have won without a god to help? Seems to be less of an achievement if you had to have a divinity helping you, not really fair.

So I go back to what is my original predicament, what label should be given to someone like me? Not so much that I don't know if there is a god(s) but that I don't care if there is one or not. If there is a god then it's an absentee landlord and that makes it a nothing for my life. Neither good or bad it just does not matter.

I think you'd be an Apatheist.

Really, not too dissimilar from that of an atheist.

That is not a term that I have heard before. It is an accurate description of how I feel. Thank you, up until now I best related to being an Existentialist. The problem with that is, existentialists still believe in a higher power/ creator.

I don't believe that ANY religion/faith is correct, especially if they can't accept evolution as part of their beliefs. The more that they believe that they are right and unwillingness to accept alternatives, the further away I will steer from them.

Thanks. Very very close to my beliefs.
I think it's more similar to agnosticism though. Or more aptly apathetic agnosticism.
But Apetheism will now be my defined belief. So to speak.
Why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.

Is Atheism a religion?
YES / NO

If you care to respond, please start with your answer, then a reason for your opinion.

Yes,

Atheism is just a religion, as it's followers depend on it, and trust in it, rely on it, have faith in it..even though it is negative and cant be proven... or tested. But its what they want, so they remain stedfast in its tenets til death do them part.

Some vary when faced with their soon departure, but most just get more grounded in their basic fundamentals that no one cares for them and no one is greater than them, and they aren't going to trust in anyone, especially a "GOD'. Its their choice and religion, and their fellow religionists encourage them that their is no God.

There are thousands of gods you don’t believe in. Atheists just believe in one fewer.

I agree, atheists believe in multiple gods, its an ancient religion, just as evolution is just an ancient religion.

Atheists and weird ancients had weird gods that were fighting for power and control, as non of their weird gods was ALL POWERFUL AND ALMIGHTY.

The Christian God is ONE,

Isaiah 9:6 English Standard Version (ESV)

6
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon[a] his shoulder,
and his name shall be called[b]
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Maybe atheists try to add up all their gods, even though they are very very weak at MATH

Please explain your understanding rather than post a hyperlink.... APTR ..... or ask one of the atheistic gods..... even if they give you different responses.

Also do note that, a god can be yourself, as atheists love to think they themselves are a god, even though they have no brains and no power.

The link does explain the way I understand Atheism quite well. If you don't understand the explanation that is your problem not mine.

In another post, DDJ broke down the Latin in my name, recognizing “theo” or theism, as meaning god. Surely he can recognize what putting the a in front represents.

Atheists do not believe in any god. Nor do they believe themselves to be god. As much as you wish to project imagined beliefs into others, you cannot speak for anyone but yourself. “Gods” are little more than personifications given to natural forces in place of actual understanding. Civilization today has no need for Zeus or Thor as the source of lightning (beyond being entertaining stories). And we have no need for a vengeful deity to scare us into following laws, as we as a society have developed laws based around general compassion and social morals that are not based on any singular religion.
