Don't follow your heart

Post by jonnygrizzay »

This was in regards to an article I read many months ago. Some of the writings is also from a book entitled "DOnt Follow your Heart by Jon Bloom.

First off, thank you for the articles you write, to take time and try and enrich peoples lives through the power of the written word. I dont ever respond to stuff like this, but I feel I have been called to share some important information regarding your writings.

As for most of the articles you write (and specifically the last one), I would have to say you are wrong. We as humans should not "listen to our heart" or "follow your heart". This is a contributing factor of why the world today is so messed up. Following your heart is a pop culture, post modern, millennial myth and mistake that should be forgotten, no ... erased completely.

Our hearts were never designed to be followed, but to be led. Our hearts were never meant to be gods in whom we believe, but to believe in God and the saviour, Jesus Christ. If the saying "listen to your heart" was a motto that everyone should live by, then what about this ... If a guy rapes a girl and says "i listened to my heart", does that make it alright? Should he have followed his heart?? If a woman murders her husband and says "i listened to my heart", does that make it alright? Should she have listened to her heart?? If a kid steals a candy bar, or a guy robs a bank, or if a student lies to their professor, and they all said "i listened to my heart" .... should they have listened to their hearts? ....... NO.

If you are your own god and think only of yourself, "listening to your heart" is the worst thing you can do. Without the perfect example of Jesus Christ, your heart does not know right from wrong, and it will try and justify that lying, stealing, murder, rape, adultery, blasphemy, etc are all normal good things.

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?" -Jeremiah 17:9 "Out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander" - Matthew 15:19 "In fact if we do what are hearts tell us to do, we will pervert and impoverish every desire, every beauty, every person, every wonder and every joy that is out there. Our hearts want to consume these things for our own self glory and self indulgence. No our hearts will not save us. We need to be saved from our hearts." - - Jon Bloom

If we make our hearts gods (follow/listen to them), and ask them to lead us, they will lead us to narcissistic misery and ultimately damnation. They cannot save us, because whats wrong with our hearts is the HEART OF OUR PROBLEM. But if our hearts believe in God, as they are designed to, then God saves us and leads our hearts to exceeding joy" (Jon Bloom) ... not to mention eternal life where death is non existent.

I hope you can take some time to think about what I have said here. What I have said is out of love and respect. This is God's truth. I hope one day you can know the joy and freedom of Jesus Christ, He is the way, the truth and the life.

The heart pumps blood. The rest is just silly metaphor.
