Kelowna and Religion

To me, this is a good thing in that it shows we're becoming more diverse, tolerant and secular.

Re: Kelowna and Religion
The article heading says people dropping Christianity, then in the first sentence says people are dropping religion. There are more religions than Christianity. Are other religions seeing the same downturn or just Christianity?

Thank you, I must have missed that part.OhMyDarlin wrote: ↑Oct 26th, 2022, 6:08 pmJust Christianity. The study states that people practicing Muslim, Sikh, and Hindu religions have doubled, but this increase is not enough to impact the overall downturn in Christianity.

The world would be a better place with less religion.

I'm surprised given the Conservative mindset that still seems to dominate Kelowna. There's been evil done in the name of Atheism too...look at the USSR under Stalin.

Everyone needs something to believe in. Who are we to tell others what that belief should be?
Oh wait, this is the cancel culture era. Never mind.

Re: Kelowna and Religion
Churches are closing because the attendance has dropped & I wonder how these Religions count their membership numbers ? For example if a person says they are a Catholic or a United Church member but haven't attended in the last 30 years are they considered to belong the flock ?

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the pendulum will swing wildly back the other direction in a relatively short amount of time. Maybe it won't be a resurgence of Christianity, I think Islam has the inside track. Not saying I like it, not saying I don't.

Atheism is the lack of belief in god or gods.CrystalCity wrote: ↑Oct 27th, 2022, 9:17 am I'm surprised given the Conservative mindset that still seems to dominate Kelowna. There's been evil done in the name of Atheism too...look at the USSR under Stalin.
Tell me please. How did someones lack of belief in a god make them do evil?
Everyone can do bad things. everyone which includes the religious and non religious. Atheists are not exempt from doing awful things. But, I don't understand how someone could do awful things because of their atheism. Please explain this.
Take something like rape. Everyone knows it's an awful thing to do to someone else. Depending on the passage from the bible, you can find lines that seem to condone it. As such, a Christian *could* argue that the bible supports it or that Jesus wants me to do it. There is no equal in atheism. An atheist can still commit the rape, but it couldn't be done because of their atheism. That just doesn't make sense.
