Are you kidding??

Kelowna can't build a proper intersection with synchronized lights... and you want Sky train here??

Move to Calgary or Vancouver if you want to live in a modern city..

While i think a sky train is a great idea, i have to sadly agree with other posters complaints about synchronized lights.... Were it not for the bus system i would never be late for work but for some odd reason about once per week the bus causes me to be late.... Thank god my boss knows that since i do not take breaks that he gets that time back plus some extra so it does not bother him.

2, 3, 4 cars all connected on Skytrain use very little power and produce ZERO emissions.

Actually, there would not be zero emissions. Since B.C. is a net importer of electricity any new demand comes from Alberta. This electricity is generated mostly from coal, gas, and oil and then traveling a 1000 km. You would actually have to produce about 10% more energy than is required because of line losses.

Vancouver had trolley cars in 1907 the population was around 100 000
we are not talking about trains we are talking single cars so we don t
need 500 000 people to make ourselves a good LRT

The extra Gasoline tax for transit is only being charge in Vancouver area and that goes to translink.

Yep, check this out:

"An electric streetcar was more economical to maintain than a bus and lasted three times as long as a bus"

Want to know why they aren't around, among other reasons:

From the first draft from the OCP:

Policy 4.2.4 Prohibit redevelopment along the rail corridor that
precludes the development of high density transitoriented
developments adjacent to the rail corridor so
that rail-based transit (commuter or LRT service) can be
implemented at some future

Don't forget a large portion of your municipal taxes go to street maintenance, cars off the road, if you got enough off, could mean lower taxes...of course if you build it and keep your car anyways... more taxes for facilitation of your luxury.

It's a crazy idea, but not that crazy.

We could produce enough solar power to easily run a skytrain type electrified mass transit sytem from Vernon to Penticton. And have enough power left over to sell to business or use for public consumption. This idea would just need MONEY and the BRAINPOWER to implement it...both of which are in short supply.

well they said the same thing about those who wanted to go to the moon
use your brain and your imagination ,if its done right it is completely realistic
and kelowna would truly be a visionary city to live in.
Kelowna dosn,t need no can do ers - If we have the will there is a way-

Apparently one of us did not use our brain......or grade school math. How about a "Nasa is moving to the Okanagan" thread. Hey, it could happen........they went to the moon so why not Kelowna?

May as well create a Kelowna space port, it makes about as much sense as a sky train here.

Just what we need...spend a billion dollars on something that won't serve any real purpose, will only get used by people who use the bus system anyway and will put us in huge debt forever!

How about an elevated roadway from the bridge to just past Gordon Drive, to unload downtown of thru traffic.

Or maybe actually building the roadways that are already planned and improving the bus system to that like in a real city, where working people can depend on it, and not have to walk a km or 2 to get to it.
