Re: Westside Naming Committee
It is a mystery to me how the name westbank could possibly unite our community. . . . . Can someone please explain that?

I don't give a rat's *bleep* if you've been scolded or not. I AM a voter and I HAVE voted. What's happened in the past will reflect on the decisions made in the future. You did make reference to amalgamation/incorporation as your reason for voting Westbank, others of us have been scolded for even making an assocaition with the referendum.

Re: Westside Naming Committee
First off the you referred to Westbank advocates in general.
As for not wanting Kelowna in the name because we voted to incorporate, it might surprise you to know many who chose to incorporate are choosing West Kelowna because they didn't incorporate so as to have nothing to do with Kelowna but simply to be independent. They do not go hand in hand, you can be independent as a community but still take advantage of a relationship with another adjecent municipality that has a high, positive level of national and global recognition, strong tourism base, attractive appeal for business etc...
This idea that everyone who voted to incorporate did so to somehow severe all association with Kelowna is absolutely ridiculous and quite frankly makes no sense whatsoever.
And one other FYI, yes I have been on TV, first off, not of my choosing and secondly because I stepped forward and got involved and actually tried to make this work (despite the numerous slams I've received on here to the contrary) instead of just sitting around anonymously casting insults (and no, I'm not referring to you specifically) and armchair quarterbacking every single move I disagreed with.

Obviously some will have an issue with that - they'll get over it.fairweather wrote:It is a mystery to me how the name westbank could possibly unite our community. . . . . Can someone please explain that?

It is not ridiculous and if it makes no sense to you, you might consider talking to those who do find it makes sense. Maybe then you might understand how others think. This idea that everyone who voted to incorporate did so to somehow severe all association with Kelowna is absolutely ridiculous and quite frankly makes no sense whatsoever.

I am writing one last time because I feel compelled to make a statement. angusog, please do not refer to the struggle in South Africa as something so trivial by comparing it to the situation in Westbank. I am from South Africa and have been reading your comments with growing concern. There is a lack of sensitivity displayed towards everyone - not just the communities to the north of yours. Please think before you make such analogies.

Re: Westside Naming Committee
Or perhaps you might want to speak to the many incorporation voters I've spoken to who simply don't get how some are thinking they voted incorporation to incorporate as Westbank. Many of whom I know have voted West Kelowna because while they want their independence they also want all the advantages that come with being associated with the Kelowna name.

Re: Westside Naming Committee
You do realize why the last couple of attempts to incorporate failed?

Re: Westside Naming Committee
Why would I talk to the people you've talked to? Get over yourself - talk to the others like I mentioned earlier - I'm obviously talking to the other voters that voted incorporation to disassociate themselves from Kelowna.

You wouldn't Fancy... you'd only talk to those who agree with your views.

Comments?Fancy wrote:No – we voted not to amalgamate with Kelowna – hence why have Kelowna part of the name – redundantstill holding on to the referendum
-How?a double standard
-.You attack when you want to then stand back and cry foul when those you've attacked fight back
Nope – did not do thatAgain, How?You use the referendum when it suits you then cry foul when any of those who oppose you make the same reference.
