Police Scanner codes?
Does anybody know what some of the codes police say over the radio mean?
I managed to find the 10-codes, but what does Charlie mean? And Delta, Echo unit?
If anybody knows it would be cool to find out!
Thanks! :spinball:

Charlie = C, Delta = D and Echo = E. They are just phonetic ways of saying the alphabet.
Have you ever watched a War movie where they refered to Charlie Company? That would be "C" company.

They may use these in their call names and in spelling of someone's name,,, or other spellings like street names,,, its to clarify the letterings needed over radio transmissions. Air traffic, military and poiice, use them as well as any other service using radios.

I don't know which is which, but the Charlie, Delta, Alpha designations are for different types of units. I believe Delta is for a supervisor.

Re: Police Scanner codes?
Alpha - A - Watch 1 members
Bravo - B - Watch 2 members
Charlie - C - Watch 3 members
Delta - D - Watch 4 members
Supervisors for each watch are the ones that end in 50 and higher.
50 - Watch commander (usually a S/Sgt)
51 - Assistant Watch Commander (usually a Sgt)
52-55 - "road supervisors" (usually a Cpl or senior Cst)
Bravo - B - Watch 2 members
Charlie - C - Watch 3 members
Delta - D - Watch 4 members
Supervisors for each watch are the ones that end in 50 and higher.
50 - Watch commander (usually a S/Sgt)
51 - Assistant Watch Commander (usually a Sgt)
52-55 - "road supervisors" (usually a Cpl or senior Cst)

I used to think there was a way of telling who was on scene or being called...

Re: Police Scanner codes?
No, there are other phonetic designations for different types of units, eg: Traffic, K9, Downtown Enforcement, Bylaws etc. The designation of where they works is a 2 letter code (KL for Kelowna, West Kelowna and Lake Country) and a number. 3 for the city, 4 for Rutland, 5 for Westside and 7 for Lake Country. So KL7B5 would be Bravo 5, from Watch 2 in Lake Country.Roadster wrote: Isnt there also something about who those are... Like goatboy wrote the "KL" applies to all units under the Kelowna detachment. The number that follows the "KL" indicated which area (zone) they work in (i.e. 3=City, 4=Rutland, 5=West Kel, 7=Lake Country). The next letter after the "KL" and the zone comes the specific unit they are attached to (i.e. which Watch A/B/C/D, Downtown enforcement, Traffic, K9). The last number is then member specific (0-99). So his example of KL7B05 is a Lake Country GD member (But Lake Country isn't big enough to have "watches" so they are all "Bravo" members).goatboy wrote:No, there are other phonetic designations for different types of units, eg: Traffic, K9, Downtown Enforcement, Bylaws etc. The designation of where they works is a 2 letter code (KL for Kelowna, West Kelowna and Lake Country) and a number. 3 for the city, 4 for Rutland, 5 for Westside and 7 for Lake Country. Re: Police Scanner codes?
There is a thread somewhere that has the frequency on it already. But the days of being able to listen in on the scanners are numbered now......Just ask Penticton Scannerland how quiet it has been lately.Roadster wrote:I see, things changed... i have had scanners since the day they came out.
