Costco

Maybe great grand kids (or is it now the great great grand kids) will do something with it.

Those days are in my past, there are few farmers south of that property with hay fields.
Added: personally I could care less were costco sets up shop, I haven't had a need to use them in years.
When you have to start compromising yourself and your morals for the people around you, it’s probably time to change the people around you.

- and I’m sure there’s many more like you, including the owners, that have no wish to farm it. Doesn’t mean they should be forced to do so just because someone thinks it would be a better use. They tried to develop it but were turned down due to its ALR designation. Lots of people/businesses buy property as has just been mentioned, as holding properties. Any property could in one’s opinion be better utilized in another way - but who is anyone other than the current owner to decide what should be done with it. If they want to simply let it sit and pay someone to mow the weeds/wild grass once a month (they do) then that’s entirely their prerogative - no matter how much you, or anyone else thinks a Costco would fit nicely (it wouldn’t).

Re: Costco Coming?
Costco is one of the only retail employers in the valley that pays their employees well.
The thought of shopping at Costco to support livings wages and a healthy community doesn't even occur to people.
5 minute drive across the bridge cancels that idea.
The social conscience of this city is severely lacking.

Re: Costco Coming?
well if they come here and the store gets bigger...that means there might be job openings...
I know I always thought of working for them..but didnt because it was too far into kelowna to drive to work...now that they are closer..I might revisit that thought.

Re: Costco Coming?
Just an observation:
The Daily Courier can't find anyone to verify the claim but how would they know Castanet can't?And neither can Castanet
Fancy this, Fancy that and by the way, T*t for Tat

I would suspect that someone at the KDC has called their counterpart at Castanet and asked who their source was and the person at Castanet isn't telling them for whatever reasons.

You can ask 5 different Costco employees and you will get 5 different answers.

The article spelled it out but to recap and simplify: Because responsible journalism includes naming your sources which wasn't done with this article. Combine that with numerous requests to Castanet to name the source and Castanet's lack of reply - Not a reply of "The source asked to remain anonymous" but simply no reply. Makes for a pretty strong case.
You know things are getting bad when other news organizations start calling you out.

Where is the social conscience is shopping at a store whose profits don't stay in the valley and whose produce very rarely is sourced from Canada? Even their tomatoes, potatoes, lettuce and mushrooms come from US farms. Individuals with true social conscience start with shopping at local small independent stores and farmers markets.
