Re: Death threats doom Donkey Debut....
In defense of Landmark...if you read the original press release you would know that it is illegal to run any movie or film publicly until it has been rated.
'Donkey Love' has not been rated....therefore it can not be legally shown in a public theatre.

Gotta love the publicity this is getting now - more than it would have otherwise.
Your bias suits you.

Wish I could say I'm suprised at the level of support for the donkey sex movie but this is Castanet afterall. Would the same level of support be there if the "documentary" was about sex between adult men and young boys? Why not? Both taboo and illeagal. Free speech and all.

If the movie is about this and does NOT depict sex scenes with animals, then I have no problem with the film.SurplusElect wrote:There was a interview with the director on CBC radio recently, as well as a review of the movie on AM1150 from Leo's video.
From what I gathered, some farmers in Columbia have sex with their donkeys because contraception devices are banned in their religious culture. Pregnancy means another mouth to feed, but men have needs. It is even taught from father to son in some cases.
The movie is not donkey porn. It is about a strange foreign cultural anomaly, and how it has ruined some peoples lives. Some men become addicted to this behavior.
If the film actually SHOWS sex with animals, then I am glad they pulled the plug on it. Nobody needs to see that.

How would you know?Nebula wrote:If the thought of this movie upsets you or you think it's a hoax, I strongly recommend you do NOT watch *bleep* of the Carribean. (Warning: graphic and uses foul language.)

Re: Death threats doom Donkey Debut....
its not a porn flick about having sex with donkeys, showing penetration.
Its a documentary showing a culture, in a different country.
I've seen a similar movie about the subject on vice.com. (Amazing site for documentaries). Yes it was shocking, but at the same time very interesting.
Some people in the Okanagan really need to open up their minds, and if they can't. They should stop closing it for anyone else that wishes too

Typical Kelowna mentality. There are a lot of small minded ignorant people who live here.Evan wrote:This makes me very sad that people cannot handle the truth, that these things are out there. Let's just brush it under the rug and move on with our lives, right? Pathetic Kelowna, truly pathetic.

With that logic, I guess we should ban all movies about Nazis herding Jews into gas chambers. After all, it's taboo and illegal.DashFiveGuy wrote:Wish I could say I'm suprised at the level of support for the donkey sex movie but this is Castanet afterall. And although not strictly a documentary (it is a film based on real events), there is The Boys of St. Vincent. Oh, and Sleepers. Both dealing, in part, with pedophilia.

Well then I guess with your logic it should be a free for all where absolutely anything and everything is fair game. Nice.

This is hilarious because the guys banging the donkeys are doing so because Christians don't believe in contraceptives. Probably Religious people behind the death threats too. Kelowna isn't any better than Afghanistan.

I wonder if this would be getting so much attention if National Geographic were showing it as a documentary on tv?
