I thought it was a fun picture - love the few dummy cars parked. Actually they should have kept that parking instead of adding all the roads
Opened Sept, but the Bay wasn't finished
Apparently there was a pretzel shop that rocked when they opened

Ahhhh,Porco's.....
My mother banned me from going there. The ruff crowd hangout....I usually snuck in a few times a week and played "donkey Kong". Good times!

Ken, David, Terry and me took a bunch of big cardboard boxes and did donuts with our cars in reverse all over the parking lot.
Left alot of skid marks and rubber that night.
So much fun running into the boxes with a little car.

This pic is my mom racing her cooper s. This was at the army barracks in Vernon but she used to race the Okanagan Sports Club slaloms at Orchard Park.

1275 cc of smokin power on 10 inch tires! Still a great car. One of the classics...followed closely by the Datsun 510.

Hah!!!

Mom and dad had the cooper.

I had 2 510's. One loaded with stereo in high school. The other was full out race engine. I did hill climb with that one. I've been looking for one lately. A clean 510 is going for $20k now. If I only knew then...

The 510 is my midlife crisis car.

I started with newspaper delivery.
Then moved up to a ice cream shop on Bernard, but can`t remember the name.
They had a big gallon size bowl.
Anyone remember the name?
It was near Kelly`s Stereo between Ellis and Pandosy.
After that got on washing dishes at Olympia Greek Restaurant between Ellis and Bertram.
That was a view into teenage/ adult life for me late night.

Was it the Big Scoop? We did have one in Kelowna for a few years.

We moved here in 1973 :200:
Back then the population of Kelowna was 30,000. Then later that year Rutland and Misson became part of Kelowna and the population BOOMED to 50,000.

I remember bugging Mom & Dad to take me to Flintstones Village (McCurdy & 97....then it became a water slide.
HWY 33 was one lane in each direction...if you were a kids you had to walk or ride your bike because there were no buses.
And Sids grocery store on HWY 97. Infact there was a ZOO behind Sids...one day a monkey/chimp escaped and went in the store...the old Chinese lady chased it out with a broom. [icon_lol2.gif]
Orchard Park was 1/4 of the size it is today and had Toys N Wheels (super fun toy store).

Kelowna's drive-in was near corner of Leathead & Hwy 97 (long gone)
Vernon's drive-in was on corner 48th ave & 20th St (long gone)
Salmon Arm's drive-in was near Trans-Canada & Hwy 97B (long gone)
Enderby's is just south of town on Hwy 97A (still operating, only one that I know about in BC)
When you have to start compromising yourself and your morals for the people around you, it’s probably time to change the people around you.

The drive-in in Enderby is new. It was built long after all the others were gone.
