I'm grateful for the rain, and I hope to get some peas planted soon. I know, should have done it earlier, but the garden isn't ready yet :p
I haven't failed until I quit.

Re: Nice weather
Absolutely - anything above 35 is way too hot for me. I prefer the 15-30 range.
Supposed to hit 26 today!

Rose Spit. Gosh, I haven't heard that name in a few years. I grew up just down the road at Masset and our family went out to Rose Spit often, for picnics, clam digging and driftwood collecting. Pretty cool place.
I'm posting this from Traditional lands of the British Empire & the current Lands of The Dominion of Canada.

Nice!
And to edumacate everyone here who is wondering what the difference between a spit and a sandbar...
Spit: A long sandbar that heads far out into the ocean, formed by longshore drift. They often grow in length in the direction of the current and can form lagoons or salt marshes behind them.
Sand bar: A strip of land formed by deposition of sediment via longshore drift or at the mouth of a river.
pictures of Rose Spit.

Glacier - or other weather people - I have a question.
Best friend was saying she read that when we see "40% chance of rain" it actually means "it is 100% going to rain, but only over 40% of the area it is forecasted in".
Is that correct?

Today's forecast is: Showers. Risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon. Snow level 1200 metres rising to 2000 metres this afternoon. Wind becoming southwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 this afternoon. High 16. UV index 3 or moderate."
So 100% chance of showers with a risk of thundershowers.
But to answer your question, IF the forecast is 40% chance of showers, it means that there's a 40% chance of showers at any particular spot in the entire area.
What actually happens could be that 40% of the area gets rain as forecast, or it could be a miss (often is), and 100% of the area gets rain or 0% of the area gets rain. Or something in between.
BTW, 38C/100F at Emerson, Manitoba on the weekend. That marks the earliest it has ever been that hot anywhere in Canada.
Oh, and Goose Bay, NL had 38 cm of snow, which is their biggest snowfall since 2020.

Thanks for the info!
We have had a lovely wet spring so far - how are we doing for snowpack and lake level?

Not appreciating how cold it got today though. It's good for the peas but I've had to come in a few times now to warm up.

Agreed. I’m torn. I’m looking forward to hot/warm weather but the rain and cooler weather has lots of benefits too.

A lot of rain this weekend! Snow is basically all melted in the Okanagan. Lake levels look fine.Lady tehMa wrote: ↑May 18th, 2025, 9:07 am Thanks for the info!![]()
