Central Okanagan fire history (See first post)

The Rock Creek fire was pretty big, and there was property loss. Did I just miss it or is it not on the list? Good job, though. Great info, and yes, very disturbing to see how many are human causes.

Rock Creek was notable but not in the central okanagan.

How so? A lot of these fires occur in late summer. First we have to be prepared for flooding (have had problems) and then after a heat wave we get prepared for fires (which happens).

I think a decent snowpack will linger longer, keep the ground saturated longer, hopefully slow the drying out process

Nah that one was still fairly small. The list would be overloaded if I added all the ones that size.

I think snowpack means nothing. All snowpack means is that there will be water during the summer. At the low to mid elevations the snow is long gone before fire seasons starts. By the start of summer the snowpack moisture is long gone too. The fire season is determined 100% by what kind of weather the summer gets. It doesn't take long for things to dry out even during a wet summer. Sometimes you get a really wet June and July, and then August hits, and by the end it's fires galore.

Yup. I'm 100% sure I was hopeful it would slow down the drying out process
