We heard that they may have found funding. Nothing official though.

According to most of the taxpayers around here (Castaforum) they don't want to deal with the problem, just ship them somewhere else ... while it might not be "convenient" to deal with the issue we have here it is something we have to deal with ... time to put on some big boy pants ...

I'd rather have Freedom's Door there than a low barrier harm reduction development.

It still concerns me that If a Freedom's Door resident lapses they will be shown to the property line, not escorted to a motel or residence. To me that leaves an inebriated person on the street, no where close to any accommodation such as a motel/hotel. Do they wander over to the school grounds and find a place to sleep?? To me Freedom's Door needs to step up and take responsibility for their residents and not dump them on the community's door step if they lapse.

Isn't the reason residents are concerned is because they don't know what type of facility it is going to be & who will be allowed to live there ?
Housing former addicts who have been through detox & completed a recovery program & who want to stay clean should not be a cause for worry for anyone regardless of where it's located ?
Is this the real problem : is Freedom's Door allowed to choose who stays in their facility or does BC HOUSING, & the Federal / Provincial Government force them to accept a certain percentage of hard core drug users, career criminals & parolees who most likely will never work because of the funding provided to these groups ?

A hand up is far different than a hand out.

Freedom's Door has always been about helping people who have gone through the programs ... they are not about people wavering on the egde of "will I or won't I" ... I was teaching a person who had been living there and he was always happy, always willing to study hard ... but sadly the damage to his heart had already been done and he died of heart failure 8 months later ... he had really good things to say about Freedom's Door and I know where I sit in relation to this effort ...
