I don't think you know how averages work.

Only time you may see under 30s owning or running a farm, is if parents or grandparents sold/past it on to kids or grandkids.

This is exactly right and it's a big problem imo. I'm 25 year old now and when i was in high school, not one career councillor would dare tell someone to become a farmer. They favour "professional" jobs (whatever that means). Mixed up priorities. Reminds me of that quote ...

“Once in your life you need a doctor, lawyer, policeman, or preacher but every day — three times a day — you need a farmer.”

If i decided local food security and agriculture was a noble venture to dedicate my life to, god knows where one would start in the CO. When i read things like "Investigate and support opportunities for alternative ownership models (e.g. farmland trust) for farmland for the purpose of increasing production levels on farmland (Page 23), I'm not sure council knows what city this is... this isn't Victoria.... Very good thought in this Plan for the next 10 years, but i think it has no hope out here in Alberta West.

^^^ no one is getting into farming because of the money. lol

I was born & raised on a dairy farm, there is no real breaks. 24/7 365 days a year, unlike fruit or grain farms.

I'd like to farm lobsters in my backyard.
Then, I'd like to make friends with a neighbor that grows corn.
Then, I'd like to become friends with a brewery owner.

I think the three of us could live a very pleasant existence.

Days are a good example of family farming. Ken's sons are fully involved (or were last time I had any contact). Their cousins (I think) just up the road also are generational farmers in that the sons there also active farm this and another property in S. E. Kelowna. Not under 30, but I don't think they've quite hit 50 yet either.

And the Day family like the Casorso family who have been trying to farm in this frigged up town will now have land exproriated from them so that the so called south perimeter road can be built so that that fungal growth on the south slopes can travel effortlessly 'downtown'...try driving a tractor on Gordon, Casorso, or K.LO. rd's and see how many 1 finger salutes you get.... :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:
can't do anything else with the land but farm...what a joke....

Nobody wants to be a farmer these days. Working too hard for too little.
