There are 1000 slips so that's $350,000 if they charge $350 per slip plus spouses etc. I'm sure they can afford it:) Of course members will complain at the meeting but they will buck up. There is a waiting list for slips. They can always leave.

How so?

Members (the public) paid good money expecting a service. Inept management failed to discharge their duties. Now those same members are on the hook for $$$. Not cool.

How big is your boat??

Huh? I'm not a patron, and I have no vested interest in the KYC.

The "yachts" are debatable - but there's no shortage of "Thurston Howell III's" or "Lovey's".

How in the world can they lose $385,000 from August to October?? And then they are more leaner months from November to say next April. So will the loss in that period be another $500,000+. Sounds like another special assessment may be in the works!!!

Probably the natural disasters spin as justification.

Looks like the Thurston Howells of Kelowna will have to cough up some more of their "play dough". UNLESS our mayor (Gilligan) comes to their rescue.

Hey Basran..........was that you I seen swabbing the poop-deck of one of your election donators near the yacht club?

Best post award for the month.
Love it.

Yacht Club or Tourist Center

I think that the only reason that the Yacht Club members didn't mention having the Tourist Center occupy some of their space is because the "rich and not so famous" in Kelowna don't want to share their building or space with anyone but themselves and none of them want to spend any of their own money to keep it afloat. So now they are in a Catch 22.
I think that it is a FANTASTIC idea and should be acted upon aggressively and NOW. I think the Yacht club should be contacting City Council asap and get the talks started to have this happen. It is a total win win for everyone.

And open up their exclusive restaurant to the unwashed masses to boot. Doesn't mean the menu has to be cheap though. A well priced menu would keep out the riff raff.

But I don't see the parking issue for real people in travel trailers, RVs and towing stuff being solved. That is the real issue, parking for those who just don't fly everywhere.

https://www.castanet.net/news/Kelowna/207170/Yacht-club-members-to-pay

"The board of directors thanks a number of member volunteers and staff who have stepped up with a positive attitude and a willingness to make things better. We all know that the Kelowna Yacht Club owns the best waterfront property in the West. We simply have to take the time to develop a way to optimize the use of the club’s assets in accordance with the best intentions of previous volunteers and boards."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the waterfront property was leased to the yacht club.

This is from their website which says the land was purchased from the city in 2011.
