Let's talk about pot
Wow. Let me understand this. Someone rents or buys a store in Kelowna. Uses it to illegally sell pot weather it be without a business license or a proper medical dispensary permit and .....? The police don't bust them? Selling is still illegal and has a maximum sentence in Canada of, Life in jail. Why not just have the Bailiffs from the court go over and shut them down. It all really seems quite simple to me, In a couple months it wont matter I can grow my own and be done with the stigma of dealing within this criminal enterprise.

Until the Law is enacted do you really have a clue what is or what is not legal?
It may say you as a individual can posses a given weight at one time, no more than.
It may say possessing more then that weight is possession for the purpose.
It may say trafficking is still that unless you are a Government authorized distributor.
Time will tell but I suspect that is is not just going to be a free for all as the fools in Vancouver just recently found out. Will be interesting considering the current Government.

City of Kelowna is protecting themselves from any chance of being dragged into any legal wrangling by rescinding all licenses that condone illegal activities. All these little "dispensaries" will have to shut down once legalization comes into effect anyway. Licenses will be handed out by the provincial government.
Be careful when you follow the masses.

So you go into business selling something not legal yet and you already know that the laws and zoning will be changing, but you still a lease for several years? Sorry "bud" no sympathy here. You must have been stoned to think that was smart.one business owner is on the hook to pay for his commercial lease until it expires in 2021

I am wondering if he made enough profits to date to pay for the lease until his business can be reinstated this Summer? He could just sit at home and smoke his future profits and wait patiently. He could use the time to do some marketing and reopen with a bang. he could still sell his inventory without a storefront.

I think they're mostly fighting it because the city let them slide by for a few years without much trouble. Then when we're pending legalization they start putting pressure on them. They shouldn't have been allowed to set up shop in the first place, they should almost have precedent for complaining just on that. Though since its illegal they don't, they also should have known better than to set up early. Obviously they knew they were running a risk, they shouldn't be acting all surprised about the fallout.

There are a lot of pharmacological companies pushing into that marker, though news like the one about the winery getting into bud gives me hope for a small medium scale industry. The huge companies will likely just keep the prices low for general bud, I think there will be quite a few smaller scale setups where they focus on making really high quality bud at a higher price.

Are you referring to Constellation Brands $245 million ivestment in Canopy Growth? Constellation is a $7 billion publicly traded company. They have no interest in small scale. Some Wineries are bring purchased but marijuana companies and being turned into grow operations.

Is that the same as this one? I couldn't find the brand you mentioned attached to it.

Just a guy who also owns a winery and some other companies.

Just throwing this out there, the two known massage parlor escort agencies likely have a license by the City. Is there a difference here, both to not conform to the law in Canada.
Sadly, IF drugs are going to be sold out of say the Government Liquor store or Drug stores by a registered pharmacist, guess this guys unemployed again.

I mean they also probably shouldn't be licensed but I don't make laws so...
Actually the BC government said they were going to allow a mix of government and private distribution. So we'll likely see everything from pharmacies to liquor stores to bud stores, that guys just out of business for a few months unless he screws himself.

Then the problem comes from the grocery stores that can now sell wine. The pubs and beer/wine stores will want in on the action too. Then add in all of the gas stations that sell cigarettes and can get out of control real fast.
