If this guy is on his 45th or so conviction, then obviously the various punishments aren't fitting the crimes. The are not rehabilitating him, and he would seem to be incorrigible. So isn't it about time he had a meaningful sentence? One that hurts?
He's a killer. Perhaps life?

Unfortunately they're everywhere:

https://www.castanet.net/news/Kelowna/2 ... adly-drugs

The 43-year-old has a long record, with 46 prior convictions dating back to 1991, including two trafficking charges from 2008 and 2010 and a possession for the purpose of trafficking charge in 2004.

Rauner wasn't arrested until Aug. 17, when he was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, and then released on bail.

Four months later, while he was out on bail and prohibited from being in the downtown core, Rauner was busted again outside the downtown Kelowna's Cornerstone shelter on Leon Ave.

In all reality this waste of skin has sold drugs to people that have overdosed. He should be charged with attempted murder and receive the strictest sentence possible not 54 months.

We could do the right thing (Bullet to the brain).
But there would be some other *bleep* waiting in the wings to take his place these days.

As long as there is demand...there will be people like this taking advantage of it.
You need to make the consequences so horrific for getting caught dealing/trafficking....it just is not worth taking the risk.

But I don’t think we have the stomach for that kind of justice.
Two essential strategies for success.

When someone like this continues to break the law and endanger the lives of the addicts who he deals to, there is only one solution. After more than 40 convictions, it's time that society removes him permanently. A death sentence is required and deserved. This isn't some first offender. He's re-offended more than 40 times.

Not only was he dealing outside of the Cornerstone Shelter he was residing there as well. Cornerstone staff and management will be waiting for him with open arms at their new supportive housing unit named Hearthstone once he's released from jail. This is the type of people the John Howard Society caters to

That's easy to answer! WE grow them! WE teach them there are ZERO CONSEQUENCES! WE encourage it! We have taught them that cops don't "police" anything anymore. The Court system - Judges - , if they do per chance make it there, will let them off scott free. Defence lawyers will bend over backwards to ensure they are back on the streets peddling death drugs again in short order. Why should we be getting our knickers in a knot - no big deal right?

Oh-oh - there I go using "them" and "us" - I should be ashamed of myself!

I mean, c'mon, it's ONLY his 49th conviction - lighten up! Surely we can find it in our hearts to cut the guy some slack eh?

1991 - that's when he started his various criminal business ventures. I wonder how many people have died using his wares since then? But why should he be held accountable for anything - it's not his fault is it?

We are spending millions of dollars trying to save drug addicts from themselves and from dying.
How much time, effort, $$ are we spending on putting the dealers behind bars? Right.

54 months - that's 4.5 years - that's what Crown is suggesting. It's about 15 years shy in my view.

Defence wants a SUSPENDED SENTENCE. Is this some kind of sick joke? Defence needs to hang his/her head in shame or have it examined.

3 strikes you are out - if these creeps butts were kept behind bars on the 3rd strike they wouldn't be out on the streets hurting people. NO, I don't give a care about their "rights" - far as I'm concerned they forfeited them.

This guy, had 49 chances....49 CHANCES!!

He should be made to sample his own wares, no Naloxone kit nearby.

Maybe if the loser got a 54 month sentence on his 3rd conviction, there wouldn't be almost 50 convictions.
This is what society gets for coddling and "healing" criminals and giving them participation ribbons.

Society got out of this guy exactly what they paid for.

In all fairness it must be noted that although cops don't arrest much anymore, we can't pin this guy's walking the streets on a lack of the cop's arresting him - they apparently did many, many, many times. Were the busts not done "technically" correct? Did they infringe on the poor butthead's "rights" in some way? Did the cops not show up in Court to shore up their cases?

Probably all the arrests were done properly because the guy did get to conviction - 49 times.

So that leaves us with Crown (maybe not going for max in any of the 48 previous convictions), defence lawyer (proving to be smarter and smarmier than Crown in all of the 48 previous convictions), and/or ALL THE JudgeS in each hearing being (asleep at the wheel, gutless, and/or afraid of being appealed in all of the previous 48 convictions)

What do we do now then? This comes down to the Judge who has the power to ignore both suggestions of Crown & Defence and throw the book at this despicable dude's fat head and slam his miserable *bleep* in the nearest metal motel for the absolute max sentence that can be handed down and not worry about losing it on appeal. If that sentence could be lost on appeal in this particular case after 48 convictions then I give up. If it were at all possible I'd like to see his smarmy defence lawyer's butt on the cell bench right next to this creep. How insulting to the rest of us, YES "US", for him to ask for a suspended sentence? That's what they give a kid caught shoplifting....
