BS.. they did it on purpose, they should be thankful I'm not their parent - they would be spending time in a youth boot camp
There's been no mention of lighters.

Kelowna RCMP tell Castanet they have three youths in custody after a suspicious fire was set at the Rutland Community Centre early this morning.
,,,
Police have three young persons in custody. One of those youth could be facing a charge of arson.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Children with a lighter were involved in the Glenmore fire.

The reason the system and the courts go easy on them is because they don't want to saddle kids with something they have to carry with them for the rest of their lives that may make it difficult for them to get educations or jobs.

Some people think Canadian courts are stupid. They're actually very smart and pragmatic.

While I agree with you, I'd say that deliberately setting fire to a building does not fall under the category of doing "stupid things."

Id be curious to see how "stupid things" would be relabelled if one of your family members burned a horrific death in this arson fire? Oh but kids will be kids, stupid *bleep* comparison.
Sure do love Rutland!!

While your comment on an out of context snippet is appreciated, it's not really helpful.

My post addressed the way courts deal with children, not the severity of the crime.
Like most schemes, it started with vodka.

They won't be named because the law says that because they are "underage', they can get away with anonymity. "The law is a *bleep*," as Mr. Bumble so eloquently and presciently said.

So after all this time the center is finally open again. It didn't help that the restoration company hired to do the work has done a very poor job.

Because there was asbestos in the building many things were deemed as not restorable. Pictures were supposed to be taken of everything and they were either lost or never taken in the first place. Many things have been lost or unaccounted for.

The work is still not completed and not sure when it will be or what the holdup is.

So sorry to hear that, suds. A special gathering place needlessly damaged...and then not restored properly.

I was not a parent, but I do know how my parents raised me.

IF it was me doing this I'd not be able to walk for several days. My father would have made certain of that. At age 14 years old, I was home by 10:00 which would be a weekend. My parents believed that what you after ten you could do before.

I've questioned this before and toss it out there again. IF your child screws up like this, would it impact parents differently if one they were held responsible, and two their names were put in the paper.

John DOE and Mary DOE the proud parents of William or Susan, foe cost of repair and realize their son or daughter will be held accountable for ….

I feel if parents do not parent, we have this type of child. I used to see in when a youth was being held in our custody. Mommy would cry, hug and tell Junior how she misses him and loves him. I had one lady who I knew her as she grew, and he parents. I asked her, when is the last time you hugged your son, and told him you loved him?? I suggested it was likely the last time he was arrested and held.

I realize it is 1% of the youth and yes a small percent of parents who do not and should not parent. But what is the solution? The solution should further not impact or affect the youth who are well parented and behaved. I see to much of that Federally, a example gun laws.

Give the parents an asswhooping first and then the bill for their little darlings damage ....

If the parents don't wake up and atone for their brats behavior , incarcerate the lot ........
