After not paying decent wages for years, and still not - they are now trying once again to fleece their customers, probably trying to make up the shortfall from the last few months no doubt.

$7.20 for a beer? Sounds like they're trying to make up for the shortfall caused by rude Casino Employees on strike calling customers scabs etc. Layoffs are just one way to make up the shortfall. High prices are another.

Well, truth be told, the only thing we don't enjoy are people who try to run our lives, take things away that we like but they don't like just to suit their personal beliefs/agenda.

I think casino workers and their union forgot how easy it is to buy a Keno , 50/50 or Hold'em ticket in a local watering hole...

Lots of people enjoy going out for a pint and a pull (slot machine you dirty birdy's) just like lots of people like going to the movies instead of watching them at home.

Its awesome that we have all these awesome choices. Boo to those who try to take those choices away.

I would like to add one last post to this mix...something that just needs to be said I feel. There was great debate on this matter in regards to the employees stand for higher wages/better benefits. While I never pretended to know all the facts, nor have all the answers....I stood fast on my conviction that these workers deserved a much higher wage that what was being paid, even to long term employees. I felt that as an organization that skims the “cream” from our citizens, and prospers hugely in our communities, that the wages should actually be somewhat higher for the employees than for a similar job in the community.
I felt that the fact that these organizations make a huge profit & removed a large amount of disposable income from the community the renumeration to the local employees should actually be setting the bar for wages, not following so much & just offering “what they had to”.
There was a huge amount of resistance to this notion from some members of this forum.
As I remember it the strike went on for a considerable amount of time, with both parties standing firm, all the while a fairly loud pushback from certain individuals/comments on the forum. In the end the parties settled and it’s all history now. However, I would like to drive home my conviction that this should have been settled much sooner, and it really is shameful that the company had to resist so much...and even more shameful that these loud comments of “they should be happy they even have a job” etc were perpetuated. I solidly feel that when an organization is allowed to come in to the community and easily “skim” and remove disposable income from the community that they should be providing a higher wage to the employees...sharing the wealth if you will.
This is/was not a local family home grown business, and yes I realize that there is an obligation for them to support charities. So now we are where we are...living in a pandemic world....with things constantly changing/evolving almost daily on that front. So, to be sure...I would like to make comment on one Rod Baker, now x-CEO of GCG and as a result of his recent selfish personal actions(fraudulently obtaining Covid vaccinations) it has come become publicized that he will be leaving the company with huge payouts, stock options, severance, etc. We are talking millions and millions of dollars. Good for him to benefit so greatly even with his recent poor judgement.
Apparently GCG is being sold to an American company this spring, which will enable that American company to come into our communities to skim the cream(provide entertainment as some would like it called), raking in huge profits, all the while not offering anything exceptional for employees, any more than they can get away with.
These employees were brave enough to take this organization on in an attempt to get a fair and equitable wage from an group that profits hugely & is removing huge amounts of much needed dollars from our citizens.
So I would like to take this opportunity now to remind some of these same individuals who commented negatively in regards to the strike...take a look in the mirror...can you see the forest through the trees now?

Rod Baker and GCG have nothing to do with the strike, completely different company. The Government shut down has been far more devastating and I know many employees that are having a difficult time surviving on the government pittance .

There you go I don’t know what I’m talking about. However the sentiment remains the same. Casinos take millions from communities, and if a CEO is pulling multiples of millions each year the frontline staff should not be pulling minimal wages. CGC or Gateway, or anybody. Stay safe, stay home.

The Casino workers I'd met & got to know have moved along & wouldn't dream of going back because they are doing much better at their new employment.
I had no idea these places paid such crap wages ? I just assumed everyone belonged to the union & earned decent money ?
