They would do exactly that. Bring back bikes dismantle them or clean up rust and repaint all of part of the bike before their goods were picked up and taken off somewhere. This is exactly what happens not just to bikes but other things that they can alter the look of. Morning after morning I watched this, a couple of times I was able to sneak out and get plate numbers of the pickup trucks. Cops said they couldn't do anything unless they were caught red handed !!

So frustrating and did nothing to give me any feeling of safety or that police or city leaders cared.

WalterWhite wrote:Just read a post on FB regarding someone's lost/stolen bike and another poster said, "check at IFTC - went by there yesterday and they had several bikes right outside the front doors they were taking apart - had angle grinders going and everything". Another photo showed the garbage bin at the same location with "we have your bikes" spray painted across the bottom. Real nice clientele, screening process and (lol) good neighbour policies.

Problem is, the Police wont show up "on time" to catch them in the act, even if you were to call while it was going on..

Yes, I know ... one time I reported they had brought in a little scooter. Of course the scooter was gone by the time the police turned up.

Several years later now, I'm just glad they got kicked out of their rental, then house was sold and I have really nice neighbours who live in their own house.

It was just another experience that made me very aware of what goes on in our city at a street level.

Last night I was in the downtown area & never saw 1 marked car cruising anywhere, but I did see several small bikes out roaming ? There are always people & bikes coming & going from IFTC in the evening. Does IFTC have a curfew time that requires the clientele to remain indoors ?

i'm sure that if they have a curfew, it is enforced as well as their good neighbor policy

Glad to hear you’ve managed to have life return to some level of normalcy. Unfortunately those same leeches that made life difficult for you and those around you are now simply somewhere else making someone else’s life a living hell. This is the current level of accomplished thinking of our civic politicians wherein they think the solution is to spread this joy all over town with these various supportive housing complexes such as the one currently being rammed down the throats of many senior citizens on Agassiz Rd. despite their strong opposition. Oddly enough there’s still none in the lower/upper Mission, Wilden areas.

LOL................................ [icon_lol2.gif] IFTC can't control what their clientele does nor can any shelter run by JHS.They have these so called good neighbour policies which none of their clients adhere to after signing them.

Yes, I'm aware this couple are still out there. The people with a criminal "job" frequently move around. I still see them around Rutland with their bikes and trailers and I let them know I do see them. They usually try to quickly get out of my eyesight. I have very little trust in the leadership of city staff, councilors, and Journey Home, nor in their decisions where to put housing for these people who have no respect for laws or other people's property. I agree they will not be putting this type of housing initiative anywhere near the living space of the upper middle class or well to do. <start sarcasm> Of course services aren't in those areas either so good excuse, not like they can use a bus to get anywhere. <end sarcasm>

I do know that not all homeless are a problem, nor is it easy to separate out the criminal element from those who through no fault of their own have fallen through the cracks into homelessness. In figuring out these problems it feels like the grass roots, law abiding person who has worked to create a safe life and home for themselves is being ignored, or even worse are being told to give up that safe space so there is room for the people who don't play by the rules of society, and who don't obey the laws that make this a civil society.

I'm sorry I'm out of compassion for the small time crooks in this city.

Today a women at the closest bus stop to the hearthstone off Enterprise asked me when the bus is coming. I said any minute. She asked if I had a spare transit ticket, I did not. The lady was 20 years younger than I, but looked as old as me. Damage done in her life apparent.
The traffickers of 'hit-me-up' goods lurk in the neighborhoods everywhere actually - it's just a phone call through a 'friend' on the street.
Point is - Homelessness is a mishmash of everything you have been reading and exposed to. It can't be solved in one big wave of the law.

Main contributing factor:
Human rights (uncountable infractions)

What do you have to contribute to a solution?
If you support our existing system in regards to the (in)effective treatment of mentally ill patients, what is your justification for your stance?

Why even bother giving naloxone to these subhuman criminal scumbags? Just let them overdose and die. The world is better off without them.

"We got your bikes" is not blacked (purpled) out with spray paint.
Wonder who wanted to hide the fact that thieves live at Inn from the cold?

Mistake, I meant to say NOW blacked out.
I'm thinking the people who run Inn from the cold blacked it out
because I don't think the bike thieves have any worries about people
knowing they have stolen bikes because nothing is ever done to them
even when caught. They have been thieving for a long time and they
are just getting more ballsy because they know they can get away with it.
Grrrrrrrr.
