Please don't insult the pond scum, it actually serves a purpose... it produces oxygen for one, while she only uses it up.

Unless there are assets to sell, I don't think any of that money will be returned ? That $6,000 stolen from Nanaimo turned into $17,000 in total, so how much will the Kelowna Hospice amount of $109,818 plus legal expenses be ?
It's one thing for a Judge to say it must be repaid but how ? An inheritance maybe ?

After serving whatever time she is required to, just what company would hire her ? Who would bond her ?

It's an unfortunate mess that never should have happened & so sad for those who in their hearts gave with the thought being that they were helping a great cause.

If they have some type of paycheque coming in then (court ordered) garnish it.
When you have to start compromising yourself and your morals for the people around you, it’s probably time to change the people around you.

No, bankruptcy does not absolve any court imposed fines (restitution) and government debt (taxes etc.).The government and legal system do not look the other way once you have filed for bankruptcy. You still will be responsible for certain judgments imposed on you before you declared bankruptcy. Child support payments, spousal support, fines imposed for restitution, payments ordered because of a fraud conviction, and taxes are all charges that you will still have to pay after bankruptcy.

If one cannot afford financial restitution it should be paid, in
full, through additional time in prison.

I've known a couple people in my past that took jail over levied fines.
I don't see why that couldn't be worked out in this (or any) case.

no, you can declare bankruptcy for income taxes...I know 2 people who have done so...you cannot for student loans, child support, alimony or anything that has to do with fraud..

these 2 pathetic "things" who decided that stealing from dying people ( it's shocking how powerful greed is in some people) will have to pay back every dime (or take more jail time) until the day Satan decides he wants them back...I sure hope that Social Worker that has been stealing from foster kids meets the same fate...

Income Taxes - In general, yes you can, but it will depend on how you "accumulated" the tax debt. The CRA has specific policies to deal with different scenarios. If you filed on time every year and are simply unable to pay, the CRA will look at you differently ("better") than as if you haven't filed for years, ignored the CRA, and are now looking at bankruptcy to absolve the debt. Note, this is specific to INCOME taxes, other tax debts can not be eliminated by declaring bankruptcy. Bankruptcy and tax law is complex, a little too complex to fully get into on this forum.

Student Loans - Yes you can (declare bankruptcy), if its been longer than 7 years - https://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/bsf-osb.n ... 02057.html

The good news in case is, she can not use bankruptcy to get out of paying her restitution as it relates to the fraud charges.

I agree - addiction or no addiction, they simply have no morals and they deserve to be held to the furthest extent of the law. I honestly believe everyone has to face their actions oneday.

I have lost all faith in humanity lately. You simply can't trust anyone and those that make the greatest attempt at ensuring they are seen as upstanding citizens and good people are usually the most suspect of all.

Easy to say I know, but don't let the criminal/immoral actions of the few taint your view of the rest of the world - there's some good people out there - they just don't make for good headlines. (fortunately there are exceptions however: https://www.castanet.net/news/Kelowna/2 ... e-honoured)
