At What Point Does Any Level Of Government Begin To Live Within Its Means? It's time for Canadians to stand up and say "This Far And No Further"

I agree!!
They should cut out sewer service and snow plowing. Would save a fortune for tax payers.

Garbage pick up and water purification are not required services either.

Oh ya and send the RCMP packing, they do nothing anyway.

Well I did not expect that, normally this council and I might add the City manager, normally comes up with a figure, then reduces it, not this time, the arrogance is unbelievable, they receive millions in DDC's and yet come crying that we need more money for infrastructure, build it in the DDC's don't put the taxes up.
Live within your means, my incomes does go up 4.0% year on year. this is a city Council and management who earn 100k plus per year, they are not worried about another 4%

Yep. About 20 pieces of equipment to plow the entire city.
We get snow in Canada. You can still drive on it :smt045

20 [icon_lol2.gif] seems like only 1 or 2 are on the roads at any given time during a snow storm in this town

The cost of doing business in Kelowna has gone up dramatically, meaning the cost for construction, maintenance and servicing debt are higher. If the cost of heating my home goes up should I cut off the gas?
The cost for housing has risen, and that means that contractors are paying more to live here. Should we ask them to absorb the costs that impact the city?
I say enough of the idiots who say enough is enough. Too long the city has scraped along, hat in hand looking for any way it can to get citizens the services they demand. If they cannot keep up with deteriorating infrastructure then it is time the good citizens of Kelowna step up. Kelowna does not have high taxes relative to it's neighbours.
Many of the new roads and drainage projects have been paid for by developers.
Waste not

Silly Man, how do you think that meter of snow ends up at the end of your driveway an hour after you shovel it clean!

Riiiight. Because you are all over the huge network of roads in the town.

Perhaps the city should buy 40 new plow trucks and add more staff?
What other services would you like to cut then? Becuase that will add a lot to the next budget.

Here is the thing. People DEMAND top notch service and immediate plowing not realizing that this costs tax payers hundreds of dollars per hour! Then they b*tch when their taxes go up to pay for the service... while b*tching about how they want even more service for less money as if you can get snowplows to run more hours for less money (you can't).

I think somewhere between the extremes of not wanting to pay taxes and cancelling policing and sewer services (lol) is a reasonable medium. Yes, we (citizens) expect top notch services and amenities, however this city has a record of putting forth either the absolute very best when a lesser version would have sufficed - or, we get a dismal product produced for an exorbitant amount.

Nothing wrong with asking a municipal government to reign in spending at the taxpayers request. Silly to retort with, "well, guess you don't need that sewer hook up or policing". We expect quality from our civic leaders, the best value for our dollar. What we seem to get all too often is mediocre results at a Cadillac cost.
