Westside Warriors Desperation

Can't post a link because it is from a another local site however here is Kim's please of desperation

Your Voice: Warriors owner pens letter to West Kelowna residents

Just one game is all it takes.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Christmas and New Year!

For the last four months, the Warriors organization has worked hard to reach out and engage the community to try and revitalize the organization. When the team moved here in 2006, there were over 1,000 season tickets sold. It has declined steadily year after year reaching a low point of around 240 last season and just over 200 this season.

As the Warriors move into 2019, we want to re energize the community and remind them of the benefits of having a strong high level sports organization in our backyard.

The BCHL is known North America wide for being a top destination for top players seeking NCAA scholarships. The BCHL commits more players to NCAA then all leagues in the rest of Canada combined. What this says is half of all the top Junior players in the country play in our league.

The Interior Division of the BCHL is widely considered the top division in the BCHL. In many cases, we are the preferred destination for top players and history proves it. In fact in the last 22 years the national championship was won nine times by a BCHL team, with six of those wins by teams from the Interior Division. That's a pretty impressive statistic when you consider there are 132 teams competing for that cup every year. The Fred Page Cup, which is the BCHL championship, was won by an interior division team the last four years in a row and eight out of the last 10. Do we have good hockey here in the interior?

Putting aside the high calibre of hockey, the biggest benefit is the support these teams provide to the communities. The economic benefit of the Warriors to West Kelowna is estimated to be close to $7 million annually. A strong organization like the Warriors provides many other benefits. We are one of the last remaining assets communities have where you can come together and unite around something in common. Regardless of your economic, social status, gender, political leanings or race, when your team scores, wins or loses, we all share in that, together as one. When a fan sees someone wearing the Warriors Logo, you immediately become connected.

I for one would hate to see us lose this team...

I dont get how we have an excellent and good product to watch...but yet can muster up only 500 people at some games...yet In Penticton they can get avg of 3000 per game for the same size City.

dont tell me its because of the new owner because this was happening before whatever happened to the team this year...I know alot of people worked hard for this team to be here in the first place...

Its just too bad..the ones that really affects is the players with all this negativity against the team..

Competition - Penticton has none, W.K. has Kelowna Chiefs and Rockets

I’ll reiterate what I personally have said before - don’t mistake negativity directed at Dobranski as negativity towards the team/players. He and he alone created the negativity that’s been generated and has no one but himself to blame - although his ego would never, ever even remotely contemplate the concept. The Penticton market can never be used as comparison for the obvious reason already mentioned - direct competition exists for West Kelowna fans that Penticton simply has never had to deal with. I truly feel for the players, as they ultimately are the ones that suffer the consequences of the mismanagement and ineptitude of their egomaniacal team leader.

Walter White:

If you think it's so easy running a junior hockey team in West Kelowna, why don't you try your hand at it and show us how its done ? West Kelowna is notorious for arm chair quarterbacks who don't do dick about improving the community. You are either part of the solution or part of the problem ! Tell us what you know, versus Gary Gelinas, Mark Cheyne and now, Kim Donbranski, apparently, do not know?

I'm interested in hearing how this hockey club/playboy incubator, generates $7M in local community benefits.

Is this done by the slapstick flicking of pieces of rubber into a net; or is it generated more from the hype and selling of gadgetries, goo-gaws and overpriced jerseys to brainwashed fans?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slapstick

Pretty sweet "job"/business...

Where did I ever say I thought it was easy? As for improving the community, Dobranski and his Napoleon complex has done nothing to improve the community, just the opposite by alienating many longstanding fans and supporters of a once great community organization with his bullish holier-than-thou ego. Feel free to keep drinking Dobranski's kool-aid.

It's interesting that a previous poster compared the Warriors' fan attendance woes to current attendance in Penticton.
It wasn't too many years ago that Penticton was in the same boat as the Warriors are in now.
Penticton team officials had alienated themselves from long-time supporters and volunteers, and then complained when attendance was down.
There was a time -- before the new arena was built -- that Penticton had the second-worst attendance in the league (only the Quesnel Millionaires were drawing fewer fans per game).
Ironically, the team threatened to leave town if attendance didn't improve, and mentioned Westbank as a possible destination.

The Warriors organization continues to be extremely community minded. They support a number of non profits and charities and community members directly. The players engage with young people throughout the community often.

It is a business however and needs to earn revenue. I don't think asking a community to support a valuable community commodity is desperation. It's trying to let the public know that other communities have regretted letting their Junior A hockey clubs go.

The atmosphere at the games this year is amazing. Fans are there for the players and the experience, not the owner. Everyone involved with the organization desperately wants it to stay in WK, however it does need more fan support. The current fans and sponsors are amazing, just need more. There have been numerous comments from new fans to the Warriors that they didn't realize how great of hockey it really is and wish they had come to games years ago.

I would hate to see such a valuable part of WK leave town. The Rockets are way more expensive and the Chiefs are much further away to attend.

Keep supporting the WK Warriors!!! :)

I feel for the players, the fans and the community as a whole. No one will benefit from the team leaving West Kelowna if and when it comes to that. Unfortunately Dobranski alienated many in this venture with his small man syndrome getting in the way of common sense and simple respect, which as foreign a concept as it is to him, is a two-way street - and now he's reaping the fruits of his labour. Nothing serves arrogant know-it-alls like Dobranski better than a heaping helping of humble pie - and frankly I hope he chokes on his slice.

The overall attendance has been in a study freefall for years, not just the season since the new owners took over. You seem to have an extreme beef with him. Perhaps you have had dealings with him in the past, I don’t know. I have met him numerous times and find him to be a likeable person committed to the success of this team. He is trying new strategies to increase fan involvement and keep this team in the community.

Although the overall attendance is still down, two of the games this past fall were some of the highest attendance seen in Warriors games in years which is a good sign. I guarantee all of the staff is working hard to keep the community engaged and keep the team here. It is your choice to attend a game or not but perhaps drop your personal vendetta against someone who is genuinely trying to do a good thing for West Kelowna

If this Dobranski did not step in...I think this team would have left though...

At the same time...not attending does not help much either.
