Robbed just after opening

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if a mass exodus of small businesses from downtown started to happen in the very near future. How much more of this *bleep* are these poor people willing to tolerate?

A couple of months ago we had a vagrant come into our breakfast room and loaded his jacket with a couple of arm loads of food. I gave chase and watched where he went and called the RCMP. They showed up an hour later. After showing them the cams and where he was in a dwelling across the road he told me that he was not going to do anything because charges would never hold up as the court views it as a necessity. So there you have it, if you are impoverished in any way the law does not apply to you. If you are more affluent then they would throw the book at you. I thought we are all supposed to be equal under the eyes of the law lol. We know this is not true though as the government quite happily steals from us all the time. I don't blame the RCMP, it's our justice system that needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom.

At least their GoFundme page has almost surpassed the dollar value of the items they will have replaced through insurance anyways.
Robbery will have this business gaining extra money by the end of it.

PS ... why does a register have $400 in it? Standard "register float" shouldnt need to be more than $75

At least their deductible is covered and the loss of the monies received from the soft opening.

Who cares? 48 hrs after opening , who'd a thunk it.
In hindsight if they had the mindset they'd get :cuss: so soon after opening, they'd probably rethink the location.

Maybe use that GFM to start to purchase items in my earlier list.

Does insurance cover labour costs as well? And loss of income for a week?

Labour cost and loss of income for what?

None of the coffee making business equipment was damaged or stolen.
Pretty sure I could operate a coffee shop without a laptop or tablet ...
It may be an inconvenience for a time being if they must do cash only, but hardly a reason to say it prevented an income loss.

I understood damages were minimal.

The small business is focusing on fixing the window in the door which will cost about $600, but they are thankful their space wasn’t damaged.

Just two days after the grand opening of their new space, Canoe Coffee Roasters will be shutting its doors.

The coffee shop, on Laurel Avenue was broken into.

“We are so frustrated and devastated to say that someone broke into the shop over the weekend and did a number on our beautiful new space. Such an incredible disappointment after the high of our opening day,” says a social media post by the coffee shop.

The Kelowna business owned by David Upshaw says they hope to re-open once again a week from now.

“We are so sorry to everyone who was looking forward to visiting the café, but we will have to close for the week to work on repairs, cleanup, equipment replacement, and enhanced security,” says the post.

Also mentioned on the GoFundMe page and Kelowna Capital News they are closed for a week.

I don't know the type of repairs required.
Minimal damage and a coffee shop ... not sure why it would take a week to re-open.
I think the "repairs" they are closed for are fixing a door and enhanced security.

Dont get me wrong, awful for them to start their new shop this way.

You said "as mentioned in the GoFundme they are closed for a week"

Yeah sorry, didnt look at the GoFundme as I think it is ridiculous to have been started.
