What good does it do for a business to spend money installing security systems if as "tantor" says the RCMP won't press charges because our Courts view steeling food it as a necessity ?
Who made that decision & why don't those in charge have to explain themselves because I'm sure lots of people would like to hear their logic on that ?
Do those in our Legal System have this goofy thought that "your insurance" covers these incidents ?

Who pays the deductible & then the rate increase ? I know - you can just charge more to cover these small incidents.

Our Justice System has completely lost it's compass

Pretty sure in their case its to cover the deductible or lost items.

And who's to blame for Go Fund Me? Don't like it don't fund it?

I would rather donate to business I enjoy that is contributing to the community than the people begging downtown. The OP is right the RCMP don't care so it WILL happen again.

You would be insane to put in an insurance claim for such a small loss.
Most business polices start at a $1000 deductible. - Not worth it in a time of escalating rates.

99% armchair cranks here - read your posts. They're ridiculous. Couple of corrections. Canoe is not downtown. They are located directly beside Zangbell & Gill who have never had an issue there. Leads me to believe this was targeted. Raising 5k for a beloved local coffee shop that supplied your coffee for so many years at the market, lost a laptop and tablet that is probably equal to 3k (never mind the time it takes to set those devices up and try and recover lost files), plus sales lost from closure and you cranks are complaining? That's the equivalent of 5,000 customers spending a $1 to help get them up and running again... not a big deal. And the automatic crank reply here blaming this on either the homeless or "junkies" is laughable. Also, calling for more policing which will end up increasing your taxes that you'll inevitably all complain about like you did a few months ago is equally hilarious. [icon_lol2.gif]

More corrections.
I think you missed the part that his was a brand new business that opened in 2019. Not a beloved coffee shop that served the community for so many years. You straight up made that up while correcting others.

Havent they’ve been coffee producers wholesaling for a number of years and this is their first retail operation?

As I personally see it, the downtown area.
Harvey to the south to Clement in the north and Richter to the east, with Lake to the west.
When you have to start compromising yourself and your morals for the people around you, it’s probably time to change the people around you.

They now occupy a new and larger space at 984 Laurel Avenue.

If this isn't "downtown" then neither are the Grand or Prospera

I stand corrected. From their website:

WE'RE CANOE COFFEE AND THIS IS OUR STORY.
Canoe started in 2015, on a home built roaster in a back yard shed in downtown Kelowna. In a city lacking anything resembling coffee, we just had to do it ourselves. The canoe coffee trailer quickly became a Kelowna celebrity serving specialty coffee at the Kelowna Farmers Market for 2 years. We now have a roastery and cafe in the North End of downtown Kelowna, doing our best to serve speciality coffee to everyone we can.
We want our coffee to ground you amidst the chaos. To give you a tiny moment of stillness. To allow you to mindfully consume something beautiful as a part of your day-to-day happenings. It’s kind of like sitting in a canoe… Just chill out, float on, and enjoy something epic.

Grown worlds away. Roasted in Kelowna, BC.

They've been operating out of their location on High Rd. for 2 years before moving to this new location. Prior to that they had the cute little trailer that serviced the outdoor Crafters market. They expanded into a bigger space. This totally sucked for them. It's like if one of you bought a brand new Chevy pickup truck, lifted it, and the wheels were stolen and your windows were smashed the night after you brought it home.

I thought the business was out by Sunrype? Considered the "north end" by Gordon Avenue.
