A retardant drop from a helicopter or a water bomber would put a stop to this.

That would be considered "assault with a weapon".

Do you think the city will help you if you get sick from

I agree completely with this video.
Needles are gross, but SAFELY picking them up is just fine. I have done it many times, and will continue to do so. My work vehicle has a sharps container and needle nose plyers for this purpose.

You will not get sick from picking up a needle.

To all of you who refuse and expect a CoK or FD worker to immediately race out and pick up that needle be sure not to complain when taxes go up 25%

***Note. As I am comfortable myself safely picking up a needle does not mean I currently like the process of needle hands out by IH. In my personal opinion a user should only receive the amount of clean needles that have have safely brought back.
SAFELY return 10 needles, get 10 more. Return no needles, no needles dispursed to you.

Folks, there's a simple answer to a lot of this, and it's simply being vocal about it. No, I don't mean bitching and moaning here on Cnet - send emails to each and every member of council. Write the mayor and be straight up about concerns. Write the heads of Interior Health. Write the MLA's. Write the premier. This is a major issue that's not going away and will continue to worsen, especially given the complete and utter lack of leadership evident at the civic level. They need to hear the experiences, the losses from the citizens. These parasites are a plague and they're growing.

I've read enough examples, stories and experiences here to see this is a community wide problem, not just one area. It's bridging all classes and affects every one living in this city's way of life in one form or another - and it's the same in cities all over.

Things have devolved to the point they are at because of two things imo - 1. - apathy - it's a major consistent factor in this city. 2. - we, as citizens have always expected our elected officials to look after our best interests and to be in the know and act proactively in their best efforts to as mentioned look after our best interests. Clearly, that is simply not being done.

More dysfunctional drivel. You, and those that think like you, are a big part of the problem.

Couple of years ago the houses that burnt down in Okanagan Center, if memory serves me the fire started at a transient camp near the lake.

...furthermore, your theory is bunk on account of the fact many of these people already have a roof and food made available to them by the various agencies we’re all aware of and constantly pandered to contribute our hard-earned tax dollars towards. In doing so, we’ve created a lifestyle many now are quite comfortable in their sub-culture nomadic existence fueled by petty theft and open drug use. It’s because of the mamby-pamby handouts with zero accountability these leeches continue to suck the life out of regular society - not because they don’t have somewhere to sleep.

One grain of carfentanil on your skin can kill you and
on the video that was blood in (?) the syringe.
As if I'm going to or should be expected to pick
that up.What, no concern for the general public?
Seems like only concern for the drug addicts.

I believe this is out of concern to the public.
They are promoting safe pick up and disposal methods.

So if you see needles and phone a hotline for someone to pick it / them up I expect you will stand by the needles and wait right?
Because if you don't that is a disservice to the rest of the general public IMO

Housing first is the strategy. Being homeless does not automatically make you a thief or drug addict. Those are the things I stand for. Oh and I live near the supportive housing project called New Gate Apartments in Rutland. No different than when I lived in other parts of Rutland.
