Encampment frustrates local landowner
https://globalnews.ca/news/4899638/kelo ... landowner/
The owner tries to clean up the mess these people leave behind several times and the city gives him a ticket?? Unbelievable. What more can he do?

Put a big fence up with "No Trespassing" signs. Sad as that is.

Why wait until night time? Deep plow with a D-8 bulldozer and then cover generously with manure. Repeat as needed.

The City says they want to work with the homeowner but I don't recall hearing any advice or how they can help.

Re: Encampment frustrates local landowner
Ya the city helps by bringing in their dump trucks, loading up debris and then charging the landowner for the whole shebang. There should be some kind of assistance that does not penalize the landowner.

The city should clean up any homeless messes for free or at a subsidized rate. It is their actions that have helped to increase the homeless population here. Just my opinion.

So if the city recruits volunteers to clean up homeless camps without pay you will be first in line to help right?

Re: Encampment frustrates local landowner
I am not the one responsible for NO REAL affordable housing UNTIL it has become a crisis. Affordable housing that is 5% below the market value has not addressed the homeless or working poor accommodation problem for the past 15 years, which is part of the reason for homelessness. Maybe the city councilors and city planner and managers, and developers (who have been getting rich on real estate) should be out there volunteering.

Nothing is free. When you suggest people do work, you must know it comes at a cost.
If the city did the work, you'd be angry that they pay to cause the problem then pay to fix it. There is no way to win when you just look for reasons to complain.

Re: Encampment frustrates local landowner
It should not be the owner's responsibility to clean it up at all.
1) These people are trespassing so they get arrested and taken to jail. That's what needs to happen to start with.
2) Then the city comes in and cleans this up.
3) No where in this process should the landowner be held financially responsible in any way for the results of trespassing.
Yes our taxes pay for that but that's what taxes are for.
