What is city spraying?

The only downside to the beet juice hack, National Geographic reported in 2014, is that it can sometimes leak into streams, where the sugar attracts bacteria that suck up all of the oxygen in the water on which animals rely.

Think of all the fish in our lake......and of course Ogopogo.

Magnesium chloride is sprayed. It's the nasty, brown-coloured *bleep* on the road. It's caustic, and tends to rot whatever it touches.

If you drive east of Manitoba it's clear salt is great as far as i've seen the best in the winter, and it's *bleep* 'n cold there.
Unfortunately that salt draws moose roadside.
Not so great for the Okanagan with that whole lake thing though.

Kelowna uses Calcium Chloride.
When the forecast calls for a greater than 70 per cent chance of snow, or when the temperatures mean icy roads could develop, we apply liquid calcium chloride to some of the main arterial roads

Magnesium Chloride Ice Melt
Shoveling snow that has built up around homes and on roads and driveways can be a strenuous task. This is one of the main reasons why ice melters have become the norm in parts of the country that experience colder winter weather

Epsom Salt is actually a form of Magnesium. Its compound name is Magnesium Sulfate not Magnesium Chloride.

At least it's still a salt. Good science lesson today. What salt is better for the roads?

Salt has limitations as to the lowest temperature that it is effective. It is also harmful to concrete.

I realise its a form of salt but its actually worse for vehicles and also concrete because its liquid form as opposed to mixing salt with sand like they used to,in liquid form it coats the underside of vehicles and gets into every little crevice it also erodes concrete quite badly its pretty nasty stuff really

Spraying in liquid form doesn’t make it more harmful, but allows for more even coverage. It dries quickly after application, and just like applying crystallized sodium chloride (with or without sand), it will dissolve in melted snow (water). Liquid or solid at initial application will have equal “coating” abilities under your vehicle, and all salts will cause corrosion.

well considering I drove over 30 kilometers of the *bleep* sprayed all over the roads instead of a little salt and sand being put down on corners and intersections im gonna say its a lot worse for your vehicle and it most certainly does not dry quickly just a guess but do you work for the city lol
