Will buy pets for meat.

The ad wasn't asking for pets and I can't imagine anyone giving up a pet in this manner. There's always other options.

My neighbour, who has a big cattle farm, raised a pig a few years back. The pig would come to her door everyday to be fed and they became the best of friends. She said it was smarter and friendlier than any dog she ever had. Well her husband, who was not always home to share this friendship with the pig, decided the time had come to kill the pig and did so and packed the meat away in the freezer. She told me there was no way she could bring herself to eat that pig even though she would cook it for her husband. Made me think for sure how we differentiate between what is a pet and what is not.

My parents took a trip to China a few years back and when eating in a restaurant were trying to figure out what the meat was that they were eating. The waiter they asked was trying to explain in English, and after several attempts they were finally able to understand he was saying puppy although with his thick Chinese accent.

If you ever smelled cooked dog or cat, you would never forget it. I doubt that any western person could have have that on the table without gagging.

I remember watching that sick movie Faces of Death yrs ago and there was a scene where a monkey was in the center of the table and the people were eating it's brains...pretty disgusting

The heading of this topic, and the heading of the Castanet article are both "Will buy pets for meat."

Cats and dogs in Canadian society hold a place as pets, sometimes they are abandoned, or heaven forbid lost, sometimes they go feral but even then are a potential pet. We don't have farms raising cats and dogs for food or leather, and nor should we in this country. The ad asking for unwanted cats and dogs was essentially asking for unwanted pets.

Headings aren't always accurate. Barn cats aren't pets - another possibility? The news heading could have read something about the vegan that placed the ad.
What about horses? Horses can be pets yet are used for food.

You would never leave your pet unattended any more, especially a cat left out all night. It might get stolen and sold.

It is likely a fake ad to bring to attention how cruel eating any animal is.

Swap that dog and cat in the picture for a pig, cow or chicken a no-one would bat an eye. In fact they don't. There are tons of similar ads on Castanet.

Why is that? What's the difference?
