Pedestrian hit

Post by Blaker »

Questionable reporting on the pedestrian hit on Bernard. I don’t know who Heather is quoted in the story. The young pedestrian was seriously hurt but was moving and luckily in stable condition

He is an ex boyfriend of my best friends daughter.
A really good young man who I have met many times.

I was very impressed when I first met him.
He walked onto my bus ( I was driving the Big White ski bus )
Asked me " are you Stu "
Yes.
I am your nieces boyfriend.

I am hoping and praying he recovers fast.

Just got a report
The young man has 2 broken arms and a broken neck.
It sounds like he could use some prayers.

Just an edit to add,
He is an athletic young man, so he does have a good chance at an almost full recovery. Although he will need some help from the medical profession, and although I don't consider myself as religious those prayers never hurt.

There was of course an update last night. It pretty much says that the 23 year old driver was caught on Westside Road, and impaired.
https://www.castanet.net/edition/news-s ... htm#263842
The 20 year old victim is in the hospital with serious injuries.

My understanding is he is in the Intensive Care Unit.
We are all still hoping he makes a full recovery.

No visitors expect immediate family, understandably.

I am of course keeping him in my prayers.

Oh,
I am certain that the family, and everyone else that cares about the young man is thankful to everyone who helped him out.
I spoke to the first couple on the scene.
I would personally like to thank you once again. There are some amazing people on this board and living in Kelowna.

Next Update

The driver was apparently seen swerving all over the place at an excessive speed.
When he was arrested the police also apparently found drugs in his car.
I hope he gets a good judge.

As for the young man.
I honestly am withholding some info out of respect to him and family.

However I think everyone here would like to know that he has a little movement in his toes.
So everyone is hopeful.
I heard that he is going under the knife tonight.

Glad to hear that there is hope ... yes, it would be good that the driver learns from this, and maybe the rest of us can make better decisions too

My brother ( from another mother ) figures the accident has opened up some of his friends eyes to the danger of impaired driving.
The victim is very popular, and respected in the younger community.

So we are hoping his peers look at the accident as an example of what impaired driving can do.
Hopefully there is some good that can come of this.

Life turns on a dime. I sincerely hope this fellow recovers fully but no matter what, it will take time and his life will be forever altered.

As for the perpetrator, I hope he spends some serious time in jail. There simply is no excuse for being *bleep* faced and operating a vehicle. And to take the cowards way out and run? Says lots about them and I hope the judge feels the same way.

And while we can easily point to alleged impairment in this case and go *tsk* *tsk* we have to remember it's quite easy to kill someone even without drugs or alcohol in our systems ...

We need safer roads where mistakes don't cause the same amount of injury/death as we suffer each day now ...

Clearly it is not the driver who is the one to be always at fault in these type of accidents. Pedestrians and cyclists can be just as often their own worst enemy and the cause of their own misfortunes.
Even motorcylists are the majority cause of their own deaths.
"More importantly, 70 per cent of motorcyclist fatalities in the past decade have resulted from rider error or rider conditionfar more than from errors by drivers of other vehicles

Are you saying that "the vehicle sustained minimal damage" equals "a 20-year-old man is recovering from serious injuries"?

Sure, the mistake is the same, the results are very much different ...
