by just popping in
A small way to show our sadness and support in such a tragedy.

A really good young man who I have met many times.

I was very impressed when I first met him.
He walked onto my bus ( I was driving the Big White ski bus )
Asked me " are you Stu "
Yes.

I am hoping and praying he recovers fast.

What does Mr. Banman have to do with the 20 year old hit by a vehicle?

I hope they were not negligent either.

The family of Gaige Banman is bringing him home on Sunday and they're reaching out to the community for help in doing so.

The 18-month-old boy was killed on April 19 after being run over by a car at the family home in Kelowna’s Rutland neighbourhood on McCurdy Road.

Gaige’s father, Mark Banman, says they will be bringing the remains of Gaige home after a private funeral Sunday afternoon. He is asking the community to line the streets for a bubble release as the funeral procession passes.

Mark says his son loved bubbles, “he was just so little, just a little guy.”

The Banmans live on the 500 block of McCurdy Road. They'll place a box of bubbles in their driveway for those who don't have any.

The community has rallied behind the family in the wake of the tragedy, with more than $17,000 raised through a GoFundme page. On Wednesday night, the neighbourhood left lit candles on their front steps.

“All the way down McCurdy. Everybody in Rutland, it was a huge thing and overwhelming,” Mark Banman said, adding IGA dropped off a load of groceries for the family, which also has an 11 year old and three-week-old infant.

“It’s been an overwhelming response in Rutland. Unbelievable,” he said.

The funeral procession will make multiple passes down McCurdy Road at 3:30 p.m. on April 26. Attendees are encouraged to spread out along the street and avoid getting too close to each other due to the pandemic.

Hope we find out the details soon. Was it just a horrible tragic accident, or someone who was driving like a maniac?

Their baby was run over by a family friend who was driving drunk.

The family friend who was behind the wheel blew double the legal limit.

The family friend is also a local businessman and walked away scott-free.

According to article it’s under review... knowing our justice system I highly doubt the parents will get any justice. Which is a damn shame impo.

Is society going mad?
What with this nonsense about bubble parades for dead people?
Next it will be a tag on the end of a local newscast.
Leave the dead people in peace.
Let the family and those close say goodbye privately.
This reminds me of people who show up at funerals for people they don't know.
Some even go for the free sandwiches and coffee.
Cease and desist.

The father was with the family friend when the tragedy happened.

Mark Banman, Gaige’s father, had just left the house with a friend to run an errand.

Just what that errand was, only the family friend and the father know. I’m guessing a beer run, which would imply that the family would know that the family friend had been drinking, but not how much.
