These idiots need a hospital and a post office. They do not need a fancy office building for the so called council. Vote them out ! No city hall for useless Westbank council

Westbank First Nation and West Kelowna are two different entities.

Nearly four years after West Kelowna residents said no to borrowing money for a new city hall, the city says it can go ahead without taxpayer money, or approval.

The city has been stockpiling money into a reserve fund specifically for construction of a new city hall since it incorporated in 2007.

That fund is expected to have a balance of about $7 million by 2022.

In a report for Tuesday's council meeting, CAO Paul Gipps says because the city's current debt is below five per cent of its annual revenue calculation, it's eligible to obtain a loan of up to $11 million from the Municipal Finance Authority.

That loan would be repaid through its annual reserve contribution of $700,000.

The digs City Hall currently are occupying was to be temporary and they have outgrown it. It will still be a couple of years I'm sure before anything is built.

Mail = Canada Post which is Federal and has nothing to do with the City.

Healthcare = Provincial, again nothing to do with West Kelowna per se.

While the population of West K has grown by about 5k since incorporation, the staffing levels at city hall have more than doubled. The ratio doesn't work. There is undoubtedly redundancys in existance as there is with most governmental bodies.

I have had to interact with employees on occasion over the years, both in person and on the phone and the experience has not been what one should expect.

While that has nothing to do with them building a new facility, it did make me feel better about sharing it.

When this was last broached, there were many reasons why it didn't go through, not the least of which was the concern when it was discovered that they had quite grossly understated the actual cost. The deal made with the developer also started to feel a bit off.

I don't necessarily disagree with the need for a dedicated building but the entire process needs to be 100% transparent.

Gord Milsom is a money guy so maybe things will be different this time around. He also doesn't have ego issues like some of his predecessors seemed to have.

New CAO = doesn't understand how West Kelowna works = bad recommendations and many staff leaving because of bad advice like he has given to Council regarding a "new" city hall. The public spoke in the referendum, now he wants Council to ignore the taxpayer that ultimately pays him. More bad decisions of Council to follow and a weaker staff than what they had before he arrived. Very underwhelming and overwhelming Council with bad advice.

The new guy at West Kelowna “City Hall” is proving to be inept in his ability to provide “leadership” to city staff and the elected officials. On the heels of his hiring, one of the better city staff, ******* pulled the pin without another job to go to. Since then, numerous others have left due to “leadership” concerns and tone from the top. Now he is recommending that Council spend reserve funds that previous Council’s cautiously put away, for a new City Hall, unbelievable. Council hired this guy and is watching his ineptness continue. Little wonder why he was ushered out of his former position to come to West Kelowna. Next up raises for Council as he has previously recommended to every other place he has worked. Disaster.
