Is this not where the Mayor lives, how convenient.
Doesn't mayor Colin live in this area!? Funny how this is being allowed considering how the parking is already a problem.

Do you think that this change would put any money in the pocket of Mr. Basran?
If it did, there would be such an outcry IF proven true.
The matter has not been put forward to city council, as of yet. The last two lines of the article:

The idea, says Smith, is for a marginal increase in density within the area.
The application was made a week ago, and will likely take a few months before it reaches city council.

Allowing more density does nothing for housing.
The infill is already underway.
Properties have been sold, houses bulldozed making way for multiple houses duplexes etc.,
New dwellings listed at 8 hundred thousand; rentals at 23 hundred a month and so on.
It simply inflates the price of surrounding properties, that are being bought up by developers.
A drive in the area reveals empty properties where the houses have been bulldozed; held by developers/speculators; several houses together advertised as "land assembly" with million dollar price tags(Sutherland Avenue)
The city really has no plan, but is convinced by developers that increased density/infill does something for housing. It does not.

I hold conflicting thoughts.
When younger the idea of "infill" every little spot would just
churn my butter. (still does)
Now, older, knowing if and when we ever sold, the very first thing the new
owner would do, would be to "infill"
Now tends We should just do that now for ourselves in the stead of others
reaping capital off the property after we are gone.
It's all going to poo around us, might as well cash in, in the stead of hold out.

Increasing the density with this infill housing is probably a great idea to lessen the urban sprawl, however it sure ruins the street for those who wish to remain in their single family homes. Not everyone wants to move or have the financing to demolish and build four “houses” on the lot. The single car garages they build usually end up as storage units resulting in four cars parking in front of a single lot.Add to that mess all the visitor parking, so you are left looking to park in an alley with another three sets of garbage , green and blue bins for every lot. If these owners don’t sell, they certainly will see their land value rise along with their taxes and if the mayor does live in one of these houses, it’s pretty certain he’ll sell out and move to a quieter area.On a different note, some of these builds on RU7 lots have been on the market for over 250 days, only low interest rates are saving these developers from certain bankruptcy.

Like there isnt a parking problem already. Its a good way to oust the home owners . Give neighbours the ability to take the peace away and watch everyone sell.

Parking is already a big problem. Should not be allowed.

Why wouldn't we want to densify? This area is amenity rich and a short bike ride to downtown. We need to stop thinking like the 70s. Kelowna is changing and if we don't density we will have to sprawl. That's not good for traffic or the environment.

Greedy developers are going to sprawl regardless . People coming to the valley with decent walking around money arent going to rent next to the hospital, They are going to buy up in the view as long as we keep building they will come.

Greedy developers
Developers are not greedy, they are supplying a product that is in high demand.
RE development is just another business.
