Are We a City of the Future? Or are we a Mess ?
Are We a City of the Future? Or are we a Mess ?
BASRAN spoke at City Council, Re new proposed Keowna sign.
He said in part. "We are a City of the Future, that's what we are building" part of Basrans comment expressing his support of the proposed sign.... it did not get passed..
I Think a link to this story will appear soon..
WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK OF HIS COMMENT . ..? I for one think, they have not created a City of the Future, I think they have created a MESS... a mess that will be needing to be fixed long after Basran and a few others have left City Council..
This is what it looks like we have here.. a Mess...
Do these Council member , never take off their blinders ?
It's disheartening to see what Kelowna has become..
What is everyone else thinking.... BTW , I am glad the UNwelcoming Kelowna sign did not get passed. ...

Re: Are We a City of the Future? Or are we a Mess ?
I thought the sign was pretty cool. Very different than other towns and cities that have a large board.
Regarding Basrans comments, anyone can make broad statements such as "We are the City of the Future". But what policies have been enacted, and what is considered a City of the Future.
If its more green and environmentally friendly, than what orders has council passed to create more energy efficiencies, reduce congestion and cars and promote green jobs?
If its technology based, then what is Kelowna doing to be competitive? Are we installing increased broad band cable, have special programs in our schools, recruiting large firms to set-up shop or supporting local start-ups?
I don't see any of this happening. Just a broad statement and relying on the beauty of Kelowna which was here before any human set foot.

Maybe you're both right

Oh it looks like we just got a peep into Colin's agenda.
""It's inclusionary, it's diverse, and indicative of a city that's moving away from its agricultural and tourism roots," said Basran."
A city moving away from it's agriculture and tourism roots?!?!?!?!?! Where the $#%% are we trying to head to then Colin?!
Edit - I feel the sign made me feel lonely and social distanced. Didn't give me a warm feeling at all.

I agree, the sign makes me think about depression and social anxiety.

Re: Are We a City of the Future? Or are we a Mess ?
this is part of the problem kelowna has right now. bassy thinks we are a city of the future. stop concentrating on the future and worry about right now. keep your eye on the ball and live in the now. we are flooded with crack heads and bike theives right now because of a plan they have for the future . we do not have parking because of a plan they have for the future . it seems they do not care about the long term resident but care more for the future resident that fits in with the future plans of living in a tower and riding a bike everywhere. what really stuck out to me is where he says "It's inclusionary, it's diverse, and indicative of a city that's moving away from its agricultural and tourism roots," said Basran. so what ? all the wineries and orchards arent agriculture? kelowna is no longer a tourist town? what world does basaran live in? what exactly is his vision for this city? the entire city council needs to go . they are operating on their own program and do not represent the common citizen of this city. thye have a vision that benefits developers and real estate above the orchardist and wineries that we are famous for .i am glad thy shot down the ugly sign but the way that smug little toad basran did it is pretty telling about how he sees this city

I too am glad the sign was turned away.
I thought the old one showed well as it had aesthetic appeal.
The white Kelowna name with the sails as the "L", bookended by
wharf pilings set over a nice flower garden..perfect!
As for the dog's breakfast they keep allowing to be puked up in the
willy nilly development model's, well, FAIL !
Infrastructure being allowed to fall decades behind the speed of growth
is also a huge FAIL !
This present council resembles a cat chasing it's own tail.
with a degree in speaking with forked tongues.

Why are they spending taxpayers money on a new sign? CoK has just applied for federal government grants due to covid. And then the money goes to a sign? My gosh, are they ever out of touch with reality.

My biggest gripe with Kelowna is they Never hire Local Artists. Usually someone from Ontario.
At least a local artist would spread the money locally.

Re: Are We a City of the Future? Or are we a Mess ?
Definitely a mess. However, that doesn't stop people from moving here in droves. When people have an unbelievable desire to do something, they can overlook almost anything. For instance, the traffic problems on Pandosy/Lakeshore. That certainly isn't stopping moneyed up people from buying in the ever expanding Upper Mission and Kettle Valley areas, so the city doesn't need to act on the problems. If nobody was moving here, THEN they would do something. There could come a day where the traffic problems worsen even more to a point where it did start to truly impact those folks, but that day is not here yet.

Re: Are We a City of the Future? Or are we a Mess ?
Kelowna has rapidly turned into a big mess. BIG MESS! No one in their right mind could call the lack of planning for parking "not a mess", not at all.
BiG FREAKING MESS.
BiG FREAKING MESS.
Stay tuned for another episode of "Terrified of Trump's Base."
