Kelowna threatening Protests
Kelowna threatening Protests

Why is this not local news?
Penticton will cover it but Kelowna will not?
This town is being taken over by thugs. Criminal and otherwise.

Re: Kelowna threatening Protests
This all comes from that reporter's social media, there's nothing to cover. Most likely a Penticton Herald writer happened to spot the post but no one from Kelowna did. Highly doubtful that Castanet or other Kelowna outlets made an editorial decision not to do a story.

He is a respected and reputable reporter, and it is his job to "jump into a pit of snakes"

Sure, jump in, but you can't complain about what happens when you do it. That's your job.

So you're saying a reporter trying to do his or her job should fully expect to be threatened by these Neanderthals when covering a "peaceful" protest.
It's getting harder and harder to take these anti-mask thugs seriously. They remind me of the gun-toting, camo-clad hillbillies in Michigan a few months ago, protesting for the right to go bowling.

Re: Kelowna threatening Protests
What starts out as a "peaceful protest" can turn on a dime into an angry mob. It's basic psychology.
Nothing wrong with calling out poor behaviour from knuckle-dragging anti-maskers though. A lot of these types are just itching for a chance to hurt someone.

Re: Kelowna threatening Protests
How many people were at the protest? A whopping 6-8 (?weird with a small number you don't know how many, but okay) out of how many were threatening? Seems like the extreme folk make everyone look bad. There are plenty of peaceful protesters, yet they all get painted with the same brush because of a few bad apples. Just like there are plenty of people who agree with all the measures being taken, but they are all labelled as bad because of the few who wish harm upon those with opposing views.
Stop the divide people, come on!!! We are all entitled to our own opinion, just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't necessarily make them wrong.

Re: Kelowna threatening Protests
If you want to hang out with white supremacists and conspiracy theorists holding up signs claiming that 5G and chemtrails cause COVID or "insert health official here" is a socialist or fascist and to be arrested, or calling for government officials "treasonous" or pedophiles, then yeah, don't be surprised to be painted with the same brush. If you have concerns you want to bring awareness to, then adding yours to the voice of insane people isn't helping your case.
There is a right way to protest and voice opinion, which is covered by the charter of rights and freedoms, and then there is a wrong way which impedes on the rights and freedoms of others interfering with lawful activity and spreading hate speech which is not protected. Taking over city streets, interfering with traffic and business, or marching through the mall out of compliance with the rules of a private business and interfering with patrons of the mall is a good example of "interfering with lawful activity". IMO unless these protestors can protest properly, then they deserve the same response as other protests which have crossed those lines.
ETA: my advice would be to comply but with protest. As in, if you’re going to protest, do it properly. Stay in the park or some other public property that does not interfere with people unassociated with the protest. Don’t organize the protest, simply state your intentions to protest at a location. Wear masks, socially distance. Feel free to criticize your need to do those things, but you will at least be in compliance and not at risk of any grey areas in terms of limitations to charter.
