46 stories? Where is our spineless fire chief?

I know for a fact that the Kelowna fire department can't even begin to follow proper safe procedures to mitigate an emergency in any building over 7 stories high, so what the [email protected]#$ is our spineless fire chief doing while spending his vacation here in Kelowna?!?!?! Ask any firefighter and they will tell you the truth.

It's funny...ever since the City of Kelowna headhunted another business man for a fire chiefs position, he hasn't ever been in the media at all! Funny how that's exactly how the city likes to operate.

We are not a metropolis and in order to protect high rises to the same standards as any other building in the city, you need a fire department at least twice the size of the 24 that Kelowna only has on duty at any one time.

Travis Whiting, what is your reasoning for not protecting the citizens of this city from certain failure by not even voicing your displeasure to the high rises in Kelowna?

I know you know DAMNED well that the Kelowna Fire Department, and the potential residents in these skyscrapers, is completely screwed should an incident happen in one of these mega structures. This is no joke people...and a FACT. I truly wish the MEDIA WOULD INQUIRE!

Bu,Bu,But properly training and equipping a fire department would cost money.
We can't have that :200:
I mean it isn't like money grows on trees. It comes in the form of your taxpayers hard earned income and kickbacks.

i have probably posted this a dozen times over the last couple years but the city of kelowna wants to go full speed ahead with development without ever worrying about growing our infrastructure and support at the same rate . a city of our size and we dont have enough fire fighters or cops . we havent upgraded our sewage treatment facilities or built new ones to handle the extra people . they keep slapping up buildings and neighborhoods keep popping up but when it comes to the actual city spending money on the city itself you hear crickets . they are all about building a new rec center though

Think they should buy a bigger fire truck first before even building this . The highest boom they have is 100' and this building will be upwards of 460-500' tall. How will they access an outside emergency or structure fire with the current equipment they have now?

That scenario was already covered in great detail, in another thread.

lol..there are no ladder trucks made that can reach the top of any highrise... :smt045

Newsflash - they don't use ladders to reach skyscrapers lol.

As mentioned - there are other ways to mitigate fire risk than to throw a bunch of money at fire departments.

Would love to see the ladder trucks they have down at the coast lol.

Mine is bigger(taller) than yours.
Who remembers the late comedian George Carlin.
George did an hilarious skit about men.
How "things" designed by men resembled body appendages that were exclusive to men.
Each one that was built was bigger than the one before.
We now have a contest in Kelowna as to who can construct the tallest building.
First it was 32 stories.(Not yet built)
A few days ago, council approved 43 stories.
Not to be outdone, another developer (Mission Group?) proposes 46 stories.
Anyone care to guess when the next competitor will surface?
Carlin would love this [icon_lol2.gif]

As the developers gather with drinks laughing about how they are going to
make another outlandish proposal and how they can maneuver council
around like a baby lamb on a leash.

World's most advanced fire truck can reach 400-meter roof (2)
16:42, December 20, 2010

A fire engine equipped with world's highest fire-fighting ladder was displayed in Hanzhou, capital of eastern China's Zhejing Province on May 30, 2008. Its maximum working height is 101 meters, and it is made in Finland. It is 16.3 meters long and weighs 60.2 tons. There are only five trucks of this kind around the world.

We are looking at this wrong.
Our goal should be higher than 830 meters or roughly 2,725 feet.
This would make it the Worlds Highest building.

The tax payers should of course flip the bill.

Forgot about firefighters, just build it right beside the lake.
In case of fire just tip it over and problem solved.

In perspective, the old bridge was 650 meters or 2133 feet long.

The next election will be in the fall of 2022. Basran won't run again, but I doubt people will get the saviour they're looking for. The big chair is Tom Dyas' if he still wants it, unless a fairly big name decides to jump in.

Most of Council will be back if they choose to run again, that's always how it goes.

Do you think fire departments there have 2,700 feet ladders?

Or they don't, and some people are freaking out over inadequate equipment without fully understanding how things work in reality? :)
