UBCO buildout

UBCO buildout

Postby featfan » Jan 28th, 2021, 3:13 pm

Read a few stories this week on a new center for our University.
They were on castanets sponsored alternate website with a link to UBC that I can not find anymore.
Looks great except they are going to build on the over 700 parking spots that are there now.
Where are students going to park or are they all going to take the bus and ride their bikes?

It is called an innovation hub

Looking for links.

Nope, this is being built on the main parking lots at the campus.
Can not find the story on the edge either, seems to be gone.

Here is a picture.
Just to the right of center you can see the parking lots have buildings on them.
Where is the over 700 stall parkade going?

So university is expanding imo that’s a good thing.

I agree 100% but where is the parking?
A whole bunch of new big buildings and not a parkade or ground parking anywhere.

Maybe since new transit bus yard is going to be across the road, UBCO will encourage more transit users. lol

And I think it is mandatory when you apply there that you have to pay for a bus pass.

I guess if nurses are waiting up to 9 years to get a spot at KGH, students do not matter at all.
Just give us your money and find a way to get to classes.

I believe a bus pass is included with student fees.

Maybe innovation means that we get away from a dependence on the single-occupancy-vehicle? Considering how well the Rail Trail works and the numerous bus routes that end out at UBCO maybe they're optimistic that new students won't be as addicted to what the car lobby says they should be ...

That would in fact make the most sense. a multi-level Parkade.

What is needed is much more detailed drawings of the expansion just to see if there is multiple level parkade in the plans, if not then there could be a problem.
