Big fire in Glenmore..

Postby 60-YEARS-in-Ktown » Apr 6th, 2021, 6:29 am

Appears to be by Glenmore and Union.
Very high flames at 6.05 before fire trucks were coming.
Flames were like 50 feet higher than the buildings in our line of sight..

Fire crews are responding to a massive fire at a construction site in Kelowna this morning.

Let me guess - suspicious? Arson?

Fire in N. Glenmore.

Postby alanjh595 » Apr 6th, 2021, 6:30 am

I see a large plume of smoke coming from the Kane Rd. area. Anybody know anything?

I thought I heard fire trucks earlier. I will go out to investigate soon.

That's awful every which way. Residents out of their homes, insurance claims, delay in building, smoke in the air, traffic tie ups, etc. etc.
Wonder if there was security on site.

I can hear the fire from my house on Valley.
Buildings under construction are at their most vulnerable.
We will hear the back story soon enough. Arson? Careless worker? It boggles my mind that there is no fire suppression system in place during this phase. Night watchman? Temperature sensors? Why just leave it so exposed? If I was the insurance company I would be demanding changes.
And no, apart from getting there sooner no amount of firefighters could have helped here. This is not a case where more firefighters were needed. Proper monitoring of the site during construction is what is needed.
Waste not

The other news agency wasn't quite at the scene as I passed them 1/2 way back home.

The traffic on Valley/Sexsmith/Longhill/Dilworth/Yates/Summit/Kane roads was so heavy this morning.
