How does something like this happens? I feel like we have so many safety protocols, things are overengineered for safety, etc...

Hope the injured people recover fully. What a sad day...

Someone effed up ...

It's K Town .. Get it up, get them in , get the loot ..

Or it could be an old crane with unseen metal fatigue ..

Or a "newbie" who *bleep* the bed ..

Gonna have to wait for that .

What a ridiculous statement. Lets just scrap safety protocols because one time they didn't prevent a tragedy.

Shiit happens man. This is the worst case scenario but shiit still happens.

this is pretty crazy. i literally look at this thing out my window every day.i have watched the building go up. watched the crane build itself taller . now its crashed down . i imagine the safety protocols on a crane are pretty intensive .it didnt seem excessively windy or anything . i am wondering if there was some metal fatigue or stress fractures that went unnoticed

News conference with the Mission Group CEO says that the contracted workers were not unionized workers.
Safety concerns?
Why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.

What does safety have to with unions? I am pretty sure, when it comes to cranes, every operator has to follow prescribed safety protocols. It's like flying a plane. Doesn't matter who's piloting it, there are checklists to go through before you take off. I've actually seen so many screw-ups by unionized workforce, beyond comprehension.

We have safety protocols because of unions.

You are sadly misguided if you believe that belonging to a union guarantees a better quality of work.

I've actually noted the exact opposite more than a time or two.

Baloney!

Those have far more to do with Work Safe/Workers Compensation than they do with unions.

UPDATE 5:05 p.m.

The Kelowna RCMP have now said there were “multiple fatalities” in the crane collapse.

"Not all persons have been properly identified, and so right now, all we can tell you is that there have been multiple fatalities from people in that area," Insp. Adam MacIntosh told CTV News.

Part of the crane that fell struck a nearby office building and a seniors home.

The Mission Group, the developer of the project where the crane fell, is providing a statement at 5:15 p.m. Castanet will live stream that news conference.

My condolences to all Families, Friends and co-workers on their loss today.

As for who, what, when... etc.. etc, I will leave that up to WorkBC.
