The hospital could easily further expand its footprint since it owns a good portion of the real estate around it (the "hospital zone").Urban Cowboy wrote: ↑May 25th, 2023, 12:19 pm
I think you're just being obtuse now given the millions that have been spent on the three Okanagan hospitals in the last decade.
What we have isn't even being fully utilized due to staff shortages, lack of equipment etc., so it seems to me building another hospital to placate you, would be little more than an exercise in futility.
BTW we have a shortage of doctors and nurses in all of BC. Hence why I pointed out that we are better off than many, who are hours from decent health care, but that doesn't fit your whining agenda obviously.
I takes a whole half hour to drive to Vernon, so ask someone who has to come in from Castlegar, or some other distant place for a specialist appointment, how much of an inconvenience a half hour drive is.
Why expand a hospital that can't be staffed? There's a world-wide shortage of healthcare workers ...so... as much as some here think Kelowna is da bomb, it's still inadequate when it comes to attracting enough healthcare workers from other parts of the province/country.
Cue the people who blame Kelowna's high housing costs for everything, as if doctors and nurses can't qualify for mortgages (they'll never lose on resale)...

Generally speaking, yes, but it also depends on who's moving in. Demographics play a role. Older people require more healthcare than younger people, so there isn't the direct correlation between population growth and healthcare needs that you may think there is.

I believe addicts and homeless require more healthcare than seniors at this point. Many of the "seniors" of today are much healthier than the same age group even a decade ago.

so basically if we had go carts and Fred and Barney we'd be happy ( ier)
Wonder what became of the costumes? I'd a bit obsessed over that theme park. I mean why Flintstones in Kelowna?
Gilligans Island better choice :0

I think the Flinstones Theme Park in Kelowna was created before Gilligan's Island was even a thing! At that time the focus was on bring families to Kelowna not the 20 - 30 somethings that became the focus later.

Re: Kelowna unhappiest city
crazy that you had a wait time of 5 yrs for a co blow I ain't that lucky lol but that's what happens when the hospital can't handle the load of people it services, also remember we lost 4000 workers due to the vax and that hurt real bad all across BCUrban Cowboy wrote: ↑May 25th, 2023, 1:41 pmI'm aware, but did you miss the part where I said, Vernon Hospital also serves a lot of people who don't live in Vernon? It serves a critical role for the Okanagan not just Vernon. When my doctor ordered a colonoscopy the wait time at KGH was just under five years, while Vernon was under one year. I didn't mind driving half an hour to cut my wait time by four years.
Not quite following your employee shortages due to higher immigration remark, or you haven't quite thought it through.
Does it not stand to reason that with more immigration, more people with needed skills would also be in the mix?
You make it sound as though those incoming have nothing to offer. That's just wrong.

It does look pretty cool. I hope the community supports it. I'm sure with some success it will also help open the skihill sooner.Patron wrote: ↑May 26th, 2023, 10:35 am this looks pretty cool, I bet it will do well , don't think there's anything like around here

OK game farm does sound good
SNIP
Why did the Okanagan Game Farm close?
In 1999, the farm's most recent owners, Hugh and Eleanor Oakes closed the Okanagan Game Farm for good, citing a hostile bureaucracy and a stifling series of provincial wildlife regulations as causes of the farm's downfall.Jul 27, 2017

40 ft Fred is in the woods somewhere outside Kelowna. Not sure if it's on someone's property or not.

I believe it’s on the Bennett farm just east of Duck Lake, Oops my bad Ellison Lake.

Re: Kelowna unhappiest city
sorry, my link was from another news site, said the farmer had hopes to restore it but after a minor battle nope, left with just the pipes :(
Plus side made me happier to hear about your memories and the fun stuff used to be here.
Ha, we could change the welcome to Kelowna sign to welcome to Bedrock and then the tourists might drive right by :)
