Farmers Market New Location, this should be interesting...

Could give two hoots about where they go. (mostly)
Just as long as they are gone from their present location.

I have to plan into my week as is, to avoid that whole corridor of the present
location on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Too many hazards of crappy drivers doing erratic moves, coupled with
people too lazy to walk to either crosswalk light, walking through traffic
mid block.

Good riddance to an accident just waiting to happen. too many stupids!

It would just be your luck if people bypass pedestrian overpass and try to walk across Harvey from Rec Ctr.

i hope the new location works well for them . i stopped going to the farmers market years ago. i am not looking for 17 dollar jars of pickles or 12 dollar bars of soap but many others seem to enjoy it . i wish there were more of an authentic farmers market like in the old days where you could buy fruit and veg for reasonable prices directly from farmers . it seems to have been taken over by trendy small businesses who charge top dollar for niche items . i find the local fruit stands in either east kelowna or summerland/westbank to be more close to what farmers markets were intended to be . that being said the current farmers market is super popular with the city folks and i hope it finds its new home successful .

When farmers are getting pennies to the pound and then you go to the farmers market and it is more expensive than the store for some reason I just quit going.

They probably want customers to park in Parkinson and use pedestrian overpass.

Little off topic rant.
This is main reason our family got the hell out of farming, the total cost compared to revenue just wasn't worth it. The majority of dairy farms are corporate, family dairy is dead. The few still (very few) around just don't realize they are dead.

Added: we could make more money selling our milk as Pet food per/litre, then what creamery was ever going to pay us. Of course the constant hassle from the inspectors would have been to much of pain in the then it's worth.

Well, as discussed. No parking. I don't see how they can shut down Dickson ave twice a week as we could not even get traffic calmimg as it is a main thoroughfare. The space where they want to put the vendors is
30X125 (pretty close) plus it has three large spaces taken up by umbrellas. There is room for maybe a half dozen other vendors outside the area.
So maybe 30 vendors if they all squeeze in side by side and no vendor trucks at all.

I don't think it "is super popular with the city folks". It's popular with soccer moms and other manicured lawn owners, who hit it early to get "nutritious" snacks for their kids prior to dropping them off to planned Saturday activities. I guess if they are going to be parked at a rec centre anyway, then it's completely sensible to relocate across from one.

Looking at the list of vendors, the majority are "Crafters". Most vendors who sell anything to do with food are food trucks, snacks, or beverage stalls (e.g. baking, chocolates, coffee, fries, popcorn, preserves, smoothies, soup, tea), and the best vendors of those have gone on to set up permanent store fronts such as Chopped Leaf (a long time ago), Okanagan Street Food, Okanagan Pasta, Motherlove Kombucha, and City Eats.

The Urbanites can find better places to buy stuff, including soap, without the need to wait around for a week and if they are going to drive will leave the city to go to said fruit stands where you can also get quality eggs for cheaper than the grocery stores. I get my coffee from Cherry Hill's shop, and if I want to get expensive cheese, I'll go to Perseval & Young, not Triple Island at the Farmers' Artists Market.

I was at Sun Peaks Farmer's Market yesterday. One Head of garlic - $3.00! Farmer's Markets ain't what they used to be!
