Lower voting age to 16 in BC?

Lower voting age to 16 in BC?

Postby Snman » Mar 13th, 2018, 2:46 pm

Looks like Weaver figures he can dupe youngsters more easily. I think 16 is far too young to vote. The male brain isn't even mature until 25, in that they are then able to fully understand the consequences of their actions, in this case casting a ballot. I think they ought to raise the voting age to 21 in BC and the rest of Canada, never mind lower it. Just my humble opinion.

Agree with this guy ^ 16 year olds have no idea or a true understanding of our politics. I’m 35 and I have to do a lot to keep up with what’s going on in Canada’s political system. I highly doubt any teenager would take the time to do their own research and base their decision on that information and not solely on their feelings towards each candidate.

I am all for it. in fact, let's cut off the voting age at 55. People over that age are past their prime and having nothing left to offer society.

a 17 year old has a lifetime to offer.

wow

I'm 26, 10 years ago I would have ignorantly cheered for this to be a reality. Now I see just how stupid of an idea that is, I think the voting age should go up if anything. Also almost think those who aren't employed shouldn't be allowed to vote too, the chronically unemployed will vote for whoever gives them more of a free ride.

also, can't vote if you have early stage alzheimers or any terminal condition cause you know if the brain isn't mature at 17 then why should someone whose brain is in worse shape be allowed to vote.

16 year olds are too stupid to vote. Until they can stop twiddling their thumbs on that device and look both ways before crossing the road, voting should be the least thing on their minds.
Weaver wants this as the socialist teachers can fill the kids grey matter with nonsense regarding leap baffle gab. Weaver has a toe hold in the legislature and with the PR vote, sees this voting proposal as adding to his urban voting base...

"It doesn’t matter how smart teens are or how well they scored on the SAT or ACT. Good judgment isn’t something they can excel in, at least not yet.

The rational part of a teen’s brain isn’t fully developed and won’t be until age 25 or so.

In fact, recent research has found that adult and teen brains work differently. Adults think with the prefrontal cortex, the brain’s rational part. This is the part of the brain that responds to situations with good judgment and an awareness of long-term consequences. Teens process information with the amygdala. This is the emotional part. "

'nuff said, there's the science, and it is disingenuous to see a scientist ignoring the science.

Then there is also the real world experience, which is that many teenage boys think with another part of the anatomy altogether...

Too true. My friends' 14 year old son's class had a mock vote and almost every kid in the class voted Green. That just tells you how much propaganda and how little math they are fed at that age.

Nothing to offer, other than paying most of the taxes that fund the education for the 16 year olds.

I would encourage anyone on here who thinks 16-18 year olds are idiots (anymore so than a previous generation) to call KSS or RSS. Then volunteer to be a judge at the Grad Transitions Presentations day to hear the student's plans for when the grad. I think you would be pleasantly surprised. Contrary to popular belief the world is not doomed by the youth of today.

Many will go on to lead productive lives that benefit society. Some won't, but no more than any other generation

don't penalized the good ones, who are in the majority, for the actions of a few bad apples. This statement is true of any generation as the bad apples exist, and they don't grow out of it at 25.

I anyone cares, i'm mid 30s
