No major fault lines in the BC interior just a lot of minor ones.

PENTICTON - The small earthquake in the South Okanagan yesterday startled a number of people in Penticton and Naramata, but not to worry, seismologists say, it wasn’t a harbinger of the "big one".

The shallow depth, magnitude 2.5 quake took place at 4:45:02 p.m., Thursday, June 18, “almost directly under Penticton, just to the southeast,” Geological Survey of Canada seismologist Alison Bird says.

Bird says people reported hearing a loud rumble “like a truck going by” and noticed a “bump” beforehand.

Hundreds of faults criss-cross the province, some more dangerous than others

B.C. scientists last week warned that a massive super-thrust earthquake is overdue to strike the province. Predicting earthquakes is a difficult proposition in the best of times, but British Columbia is particularly challenging with the extensive network of fault lines that spread like a matrix across the province. This is what the fault lines look like mapped across the province.

Bumped up

The most vulnerable imho are residents living on the Fraser River Delta sediment (most of the way to Hope).
It will be the length of earthquake shaking that will cause greatest damage, along with numerous aftershocks.

btw it’s not if but when this happens.

as I’ve said number of times before, there is no way in hell I would live in the area of this river sediment.

From what I know, these small earthquakes are a good sign. The problem comes when they stop occurring for a longer time.

That's actually a myth.

I am not a geologist, but it makes sense to me that relieving the stress in between plates passing each other is a good thing. Once they get stuck, the stress just grows.

There is roughly 300 hundred years of stored up energy to be released, last one was in 9.0 area in size. When this actually pops, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near.

How did you come up with 300 years? My understanding is that these fault-line tremors come from tectonic plates grinding against each other, i.e. NOT being stuck. But, I might be wrong.

Thanks. I watched a YT video about Cascadia. Quite intriguing. I know you are deep into this matter, so what do you think, .. are these tremors a good sign, or harbingers of something menacing?

I am not a Seismologist, it’s probably just normal tectonic activity.

Now off the coast of Oregon is a active volcano.
